The question should be is there anyone still using old rubber bands and if so why ?

Yup for the racehorses! They only need to be in for an hour, most of the jockeys pull quite a few out when they get on and the rest get plucked out after the race. I just use 1 band to plait so they are easy to undo. No point stitch plaiting a racehorse plus when the jockeys start scrubbing the horse would lose half its mane if they were stitched in!

You’ve missed the point!!
This isn’t about stitching in.

I can't get on with the silicone ones at all. That said I always sew plaits in but the lady who competed my horse for a while used to plait with the silicone bands and I couldn't manage them at all when I tried.
