Had to get off the youngster on a hack today as he was worried about some huge, black water troughs the farmer had left by the side of the road. We walked up to them in hand, had a good sniff and got over it. So I put my stirrup down for a bit of help, stood on a stone, put my foot in the stirrup and promptly slipped off the stone falling on my bum!! Poor horse didn't know what happened! Luckily he just made his way to his friend and just stood there. Way to teach a youngerst to stand still to get on!!!

LOL how embarassing!!

My silliest was when I landed on my bum after forgetting to tighten the girth... easy mistake to make but I'd been riding for 8 years at the time!! Still, you only ever make that mistake once

My stupidest was when I was 10, was sat on pony in the middle of the traditional saturday morning lesson doing "exersizes" and while at the cruitial point of half sissors (so not describing it, too compliacted but incvolve swinging back into saddle) said pony (called lucky god damn it) did a full body shake and i went straight over her back and landed on mine with her and another pony called rob looking at me me like I was the biggest idiot in the world! That was the very first time i fell off and i think it was burly because it was so funny i wasn't scared of falling for years, untill it started to hurt anyway!

I have my sisters permission to post this:) Riding the bomb proof 14:3 coloured, mare spooked at a roll of carpet in the grass verge (I don't know why it was there) This was in walk, the mare stumbled and sister just rolled off onto the road. The mare stood there pretending she did not know this woman lying in the road, trying to climg up the mares leg, I swear if that mare could have blushed she would have

I used to help out at my local riding school where I had only just learned to ride (as an adult!) to gain some experience. Hah! Had to take the horses back to their fields at the end of the day 3 miles along a main road. Ride one, lead one. My first go at this, we come to a 40mph road sign and I go one side - the horse I was leading goes the other. There's a brief pause and then your arm dislocates and you fall off the back of the horses' bum and onto the road. Ha bloody ha. Never did it again though!

I ended spending a week in hospital with a 'bent' arm, falling off by jumping over the pony when trying to get on bareback !

My friend was giving me a 'leg-up' once and forgot to stop pushing, so I ended up on the floor on the other side of the horse!
Oh and I've just remembered the time I got on an RC pony who then promptly bucked, in walk and I landed standing side on to him as if I was ready to mount...very convenient

I bought a western saddle for my old haflinger, got on all right, but couldn't work out how to get off again

So after much wriggling and effort, I finally gave up, leant sideways and fell off. Having had lessons I can now tell you that is NOT the correct way to get off..

LOL!
Cant beat that for stupid though

me too anima!!!

when i was about 16 my boyfriend at the time offered to come out on a hack on foot with my coz my mare was being a total horror on her own (broncing queen). we were walking around happily, we had to walk through a ditch (which we had done a million times) she put her front feet in the ditch so she was on a slant, i pulled her to a halt in this position coz i noticed my boyfriend was on the phone so i could wait for him... mare then took stopping as 'dinner time' put her head straight down and i skidded gracefully down her neck and ended up sat next to her head in the sodding ditch...

she had no idea why i was there and my boyfriend told all our friends over the phone.....

thats what u get for trying to show off infront of boys...

I have two- both from years ago. The first was when I was trying to get on bareback. Was obviously much more springy in those days as I didnt stop at the top and just slithered off again over the other side

Second was even more stupid. Was riding a friends fatty cob bareback. Backwards. And then asked him to canter. Unsurprisingly he bucked me off

I was on a hack with a friend and we were cantering through a field but chatting at the same time and not paying much attention. We got to the end of the field and intended to turn right but the ponies were used to turning left. Because neither of us were paying attention both of us came off the right hand side!

My pony came up to a xc jump, stopped, then half-heartedly popped it. It surprised me a bit so i just popped out the side door, leaving my boot still in the stirrup! thank goodness he didn't disappear off!
On the same pony i have also fallen off whilst getting off (he put his head down when i leant forwards), fallen off in a showing class- sycronised with the girl in front of me and also very slowly out the side door into a pile of nettles!

On my old man, i've fallen off him by him falling over, usually by his clumsiness (i.e. not seeing a ditch!!) silly boy!

My silliest fall was when I was riding a friend's 17.3hh horse following another friend on her horse round a xc course through a wood. My horse tried to run out at a fence and I battled with him as we cantered towards it - we managed to jump the fence but far too close to the tree it was next to and a low branch hit me across the chest. I did a full backward roll over the horses bum and landed on my back!
I couldn't believe I hadn't hurt myself after falling quite a distance!

ooo i have another one! I had just ridden someones very rounded cob, i had taken her saddle off and intended to ride her bareback for a while. Now this was a few years ago when i *had* to take a running jump at everything. So a 10 yr old took a flying leap onto a 15.2hh round cob.....which had a lot of coat shine spray on!! Which equalled me barely touching her back and sliding right the way over......in front of the whole yard! Oh the shame!!!!
needless to say.. i never did it again! haha

Taking my Shetland pony for a lovely walk in-hand in the park.

We were just waking past an oak tree when he got spooked, ran into me sideways. My legs buckled, and I flew over his back - headlong into the tree. Ouch!!!
