Silliest thing you've done to cause yourself an injury

Non horsey - put suitcase at bottom of stairs after holiday with view to taking it upstairs later - went upstairs to settle one of the children - came down the stairs kicked the suitcase and broke my toe in style (open fracture) required pinning and huge amount of antibiotics ... What an idiot!

Squirted half a bottle of tomato ketchup up my nose.

Pure agony.

OMG, please explain that one!

Pedalling furiously on my Chopper (that sounds so weird!), the chain came off, I flew over the handlebars and snapped a front tooth in half. A week later, pedalling furiously once more, chain came off, so did I, broke my arm and gashed my leg wide open.

Stupidly offered the horse a carrot with a finger pointing at his mouth: he of course bit down as hard as possible on the finger. The pain was excruciating.

Fell off the mounting block. Never even got on the blooming 'oss.
Cue nerve damage to spine (thankfully turned out to be temp) dislocated elbow, ligament damage to knee, injuries to shoulder and neck. Was left urine incontinent thankfully that was because of the nerve damage to my spine and turned out to be temporary.
Dangerous things mounting blocks.

Mine are generally dog related too! Cut myself when closing the crate in my car, leaving a big cut. Didn't think anything of it until a week later when it started going green with infection and swelling up! Was in the park with a dog who wouldn't come back. When to take it's collar when I was close enough managed to slip and hear a crack in my foot. Either I broke it or sprained it really badly but I was hobbling around for months! Recent one is clipping a lead onto a dog, managed to get my finger caught in the D ring, lead gets twisted and heard a crack. Finger went a bit numb but didn't hurt but think I may have broken it as it has started going black!

I've done the girth thing many times - usually resulting in a split lip.
Maybe I should start buying longer girths...I think it's because I've usually got greasy hands when I tack up ;)

The girthing thing has gotten me too, last time I ended up sitting on the floor trying not to pass out and mare decided to try and eat a chunk of my hair.

My silly list also includes kissing an extremely headshy horse on the nose as a child despite being told repeatedly not to do it. Eventually the horse did clonk me a good one and my nose has been crooked ever since.

Running back along a little private lane to move my lorry which was blocking someone in, I tripped over a home made speed bump and broke my arm. Still managed to move my lorry though although it was b......y painful!

Glad to see I'm not the only clumsy eejit - I know I shouldn't laugh but....

One of mine that springs to mind is related to wallpapering the hall, stairs and landing. Having spent several hours successfully balancing on a sturdy plank set between two ladders, which required two helpers and was about 15 feet up (bear in mind, to plagiarize another poster, I also have the athletic abilty of a house brick), I fell of the bottom rung of a stepladder and really hurt my coccyx. It still bothers me occassionally, 3 years later.

fell down the three bottom stairs at home whilst carrying washing landing on coccyx, 2 days later kicked a tennis ball for the dog, the grass was wet, I went A over T and landed on my coccyx fracturing the last 3, took 2 years to be pain free and be able to sit properly and then the day before my newly backed youngster was coming home I took the dogs to a newly dug pond for a swim, I stood on the edge (the sides were sloped) whilst the dogs went in and out after a ball, when I tried to walk backwards away from shaking dogs I found out the clay sides when wet were like sheet ice when wet from the dogs and A over T I went again and did exactly the same injury and had to wait nearly 2 years to get on my youngster.

I have fallen over numerous times whilst putting jumps up/or moving them, (fractured a toe...)
tipped a muck bucket out over my head whilst trying to get it on the muck heap...
Also im guilty of punching myself in the face whilst doing the girth... I have once when i first got back into riding, doing my girth up whilst mounted and leaned a bit too much and fell off... Pony was not amused lol!

no horsey -
R dragged me and i've managed to nearly knock myself out by tripping over the paving on the pavement... Someone came out of there house to make sure i was ok my pride was all that was damaged and i had a nice big bruise on my head...
Running through London bridge with seconds to get my train and my feet gave way under me and i went down HARD! didn't even try and catch myself and just went straight on my face...(i could have cried...)

I have fingered exposed wires on my hair dryer whilst talking on the phone. I electrocuted my self and then poked it again because I pondered what the peculiar feeling was!

Non-horsey: I used to do a bit of tall ship sailing. On this occasion, I'd climbed to the very top of the mainmast (shaking with fear all the way!) and then successfully got back down. As I went to jump from the side of the ship to the deck - a distance of about three feet - I got my foot wrapped in a rope and landed nose first! Somehow, I didn't break anything, but there was a lot of blood to be swabbed off the deck.

I'm another who has punched myself in the face doing up a girth!

Not horsey, but at the weekend I cut my hand because I dropped a very sharp bread knife and stupidly attempted to catch it ...

Iv also done the girth thing, punched myself straight on the top bit of my nose and caused a massive nosebleed and two black eyes.

displaying leatherman tools at work and dropped it, went to catch it and it cut straight through the fleshy part of my thumb, anyone pondering the sharpness of the leathermans... it didnt even slow the descent of the tool, very sharp!

Got off to do a gate and the impatient horse i was riding trod on my foot and twisted round, swore a bit, got back on and insisted i was ok to carry on the ride. Wasnt till i got back, untacked and went to take my boot off that i couldnt as it has swelled so much. when my friend eventually managed to get it off the amount of blood was very impressive! in true style, just cleaned it with hibiscrub, sprayed it with purple spray, stuck some vetwrap on to hold my foot together and hopped home as my foot wouldnt go back in my boot!

I also tripped over a wheelbarrow i was emptying, tipped it up and stupidly carried on walking, went straight over the top and landed on my face in the muckheap.

I bought new boots to wear at a show - didn't break them in - wore them all day in 2 in hand and 2 ridden classes the following day hugely swollen and damaged Achilles tendon on left leg- it takes ages to get myself going if I sit down for a while ..but it is getting better.

I have punched myself in the face a few times whist doing up the girth - which is exactly why i like long straps on my saddles and a short horse!

I try very hard not to injure myself so i can't think of anything at the moment!

This morning, lunging. Horse being a sod and not cantering so I flicked the whip back and forward and managed to crack myself on the bum cheek with it. I'm not sad in work on a throbing bruise on my bum :( Ouch.

Thought of another
Electric fencing... i thought it was a good idea to push the wheelbarrow under the line but i forgot it was a completely metal wheelbarrow and i nearly lost control of my bladder :( The shame! but i learnt a lesson lol! and my legs were shaking for about 20 mins after!

Jumped out of the bunk on my old wagon with no ladder, broke all but one of my fingernails... That hurt.

When showing off on a borrowed highland I dismounted from a standing position by cartwheeling off the back (I used to vault...) and landed on a stone- fractured anke and a cast for two weeks

Trying to shift my weight to rebalance a 'motor biking' mare flying around a corner- brought us both down with my feet still in the irons, pulled all the ligaments off my feet.

And numerous day-to-day idiotic decisions resulting in broken fingers (hanging onto a yearling), black eyes (lead rope in face) and severe concussion (not asking where the pony I was on usually had hissy fits despite knowing it had broken it's owner's pelvis and her daughter's collarbone at the same place, and it dumping me in spectacular style, kicking me in the head on the way down).

Made the mistake of reading this while at work (on lunch!) - I alternate between wincing (some are very ouch) and laughing out loud (due to how well the poster has painted the picture of their predicament!).

Mine was a lesson in making sure you tighten a girth after you get on and before you lean over to close a gate. Thankfully the horse in question was a real sweetie, who just looked at me in bewilderment as I slid (thud!) to the ground next to them! And thankfully only pride was hurt.

I'm really accident prone and do things to myself all the time but one of the most memorable was spraining my ankle really badly while in a meeting at work (don't ask). It went with an audible crack then swelled up and went purple/black. Unfortunately it was also the last day I could post my sister's birthday present so had a to do a version of the Ministry of Funny Walks the 600 yards each way to the Post Office and back. Ironically I passed A&E in the process and probably should have gone in, but had better things to do with the next 6 hours. I didn't have anything at home to treat it with so having done horsey who of course was right across the field and was losing her hearing so I had to hobble to within 10 feet of her before she realised I was there, I went home wearing a vetwrap and lots of arnica cream!

Two spring too mind, but only one ended in casualty....

The first was turning of the mains water when we had a frozen pipe on the yard, and managed to trap my finger under the manhole cover - it was a very heavy cover so had to 'pull' my finger out as couldn't lift it off with the other hand. Mashed finger and fainted....should have gone to casualty but just covered it in vet wrap so I didn't have to look at it!

The second was worse - I put a pile of dirty numnahs on top of a water tank to take in for washing - completely forgot there was half an old paving slab on the top, so as I pulled the numnahs off to take in, the paving slab fell and hit square on my big toe! It fell from about 5ft and I was only wearing slippers - cue exploding toe and blood. Fortunately my neighbour is a vet and she came round, took one look and said 'oh that is so gross' and carted me off to casualty. Broke it in two places and traumatised the nail bed, so now have a naked mishapen toe as a reminder of my stupidity.....weirdly I didn't fain that time?!

I now wear steel toe cap wellies!!!!

Taking a rug off the stable door, elasticated leg strap metal fastener caught under door and when I pulled flew up and hit me in the face.Have also hit myself in the face with the metal end of a lead rope on various occasions

Thankfully I've only got a couple.

First one was accepting a schooling whip as a baton in a relay race on a whip shy horse. Poor horse did an admirable job of coping as I leant over his side to pick up a ball, but it was all too much for him as the whip was waving around frantically on the approach to a cavaletti (30cm!) and he put in a huge leap. I tried to grab the pommel of the saddle with my left hand and came off over his right shoulder, the torque not only broke the radius but dislocated it to a 90degree angle opposite to where it should have been... they got a consultant surgeon out of bed for me :)

Secondly (and this was really silly) running up my horse for the farrier wearing crocs. I stop and horse slides on the loose stones on the yard right into my heel. Came over all sick feeling immediately, and foot from ankle down pulsates between numb and on fire. Of course there was an audience so I couldn't say anything and had to grit my teeth, put horse away before I could sit down to take the weight off my foot. I couldn't wear a shoe on that foot for about 2 months, and my heel remains deformed, so strongly suspect I cracked the heel bone - not that I went to a doctor or anything

Thirdly was more unfortunate - when I was a kid, there were always a couple of gypsy horses grazing in a paddock near my school - they were always changing, and you never knew what their temprements were like. Anyway, one day I was walking along by the paddock when I crouched down to tie my shoe lace. When I stood up I came face to face with this big black and white cob who promptly lunged forward and bit my boob - honestly it had the whole thing in its mouth... I had one set of teeth marks on the topside and one set on the underneath and it is the most painful experience I've ever had (including breaking my wrist above!)
