I got kick in the head yesterday by a sec b stallion rearing up and hitting me with his front hoof he didnt have shoes on thanks god! But still had to have 8 stichis and 10 days off work! I so bored already. Any body have any ideas what i can do to pass the time.

Well I paid the price for fa**ing around Parelli-like on a young horse with no saddle, no bridle, no headcollar....horse spooked and I fell out the back door and broke my back

I suppose my stupidest accident was falling before I'd actually got on my horse. I had my foot in the stirrup and horse decided to leave at speed without me. I fell flat on my face and it hurt!

Getting dragged along the beach flat out canter with my foot stuck in the stirrup!!

God only knows how i didnt burn my bum on the sand!

Two spring to mind (which is suprising the amount of times I've fallen on my head)

My worst accident so far (touches wood frantically) was coming off a 13hh pony, about 2 years ago at a Christmas Charity 'do' - it was an RS instructors 'v' kids gymkhana race, I was squashing a 13hh pony who was a bit of a speed demon, unfortunatly gravity and other forces got the better of me and gradually the saddle and I moved closer to the ponies ears, which irritated it somewhat to the point of rodeo-ing around the school, eventually firing me headfirst into a wall.
I spent most of Xmas eve in A&E and a neckbrace on for the rest of the holiday season!

Second most stupid accident was las twinter - jumping up and down ontop of the muckheap to squash it down - we've all done it! Only I fell off onto the hard standing, ripped the ligaments in my ankle, another spell in A&E and and still 9 months on struggle with it collapsing and giving me grief.

I got my glasses snapped in half taking off a brushing boot last week when pony moved and kneed me in the face. I'm currently claiming on the insurance for a new pair.

Sitting bare back on a horse in just a headcollar not tied up and attempting full scissors ( i used to be able to do it when i was about 12!!) getting stuck kind of laying on her with legs crossed when she tucked her bum under and leapt forward. I did an impressive sort of sideways roll off the side onto concrete. Luckily only grazing my arm my leg oh and my ego! not attempted it since!

Riding ones - got bucked off my friend's horse 10 days before my wedding cos I was hungover from my hen night and didn't notice the horse was feeling a bit bright! Luckily no real damage done.
Then a few days before the big day, my horse threw his head up and gave me a fat lip, which JUST about went down in time.

Stupidest one this year - was at a team chase and got out of the car in a hurry to go and check the score board. The wind caught the car door and slammed it on my thumb which bled so much I had to go and seek out the first aid to tape it up!

I have had 3 proper injuries with horses.

1, 2 years ago cantering Buddie up a lane bareback, he spooked at something in a gateway, I spun round and landed on my feet, I sat down for a minute, got back on and rode him to my mum's house, bathed him and then walked him home. By the time I got back to the yard I couldn't walk. I went to hospital and had my boot cut off. I had torn ligaments in my right foot. Ouch!!

2, The 1st winter I had Bear me and a friend went out for a ride. We were cantering up a track we always used. Friend was in front and went round the corner her horse slammed his breaks on and spun round, my mate came off landed her back on a rock.
There was a big white polythene bag in the hedge, so she stayed on foot and walked him past it.I stayed on Bear and as we went past it a gust of wind made it blow up, Bear leapt up in the air with all 4 feet and I flew up in the saddle and as I came back down my feet were still in the stirrups and the outside edge of my left foot took all my weight! I walked him home with 1 foot working and 1 dangling, we were about 30 mins away from home! I tore the ligaments in that bloody foot too!

3, back in April we were on the XC course practisng, he cat leapt the 2nd part of a double, I lost my balance, he bucked and swerved to the left, so I came out the side door and landed on my coxix and wrist! Broke my wrist and my back still isn't right. And I didnt have my body protector on which was a stupid mistake.

Theres many more but no more trips to hospital lol!

My two most recent 'I wish the ground would swallow me up moments'...

Riding on beach gossiping to my friend, came across a small rock pool (in walk) horse spooks I fall off in the worst slow motion way ever, I think it took me around 60 secs to finally hit the deck. Packed beach and I end up in front of horse looking up at him from between his legs... my new Gucci's at that time came out ok so all was not lost. Broken finger nail and bruised ankle and one huge denting to the ego.

Went to get on my old cob Taffy, he decided (for the only time ever) sod this I am off, end result falling backwards onto my back and being dragged a little way.... oh my huge red face and only my OH was watching!

I had a silly near miss just yesterday!

Riding along track in trot - not really paying attention when I suddenly realised I was about to brushed against a tree trunk, in a split second thought I pushed against the trunk with my hand and nearly pushed myself right off the other side, managed cling on and right myself, look back to daughter but luckily she had been looking the other way!

LOL I have fallen off in the past and looked around to make sure no one is looking!
A few years ago I was on a 17hh youngster bare back riding out of a show ground, I was only 14. He was a real laid back sort.
As we were going up through the field a lorry was behind us and it let off its air breaks, he cantered sideways and then he reared up vertically (the 1st and last time he has EVER reared)! I slid down his bum and landed on my feet!

Oh the shame!

Been shaken off at a standstill. I'm wee!
Kneed in the face once or twice and my favourite one was coming out the side door during mounted games and landing in a big pile of poles stacked in the corner of the school.
Then there was the 'getting dunked in the sea' incident, where I then had to squelch back on board a bus full of journos, sniggering at the so-called 'experienced' rider.....

getting bucked off at a show in March, we'd only made it as far as the warm up arena and George got rather excited and put in a buck. Somehow I managed to land totally spreadeagled in the sand and felt like I'd eaten half of the arena - oh the shame.

GG - your comment about eating the arena just reminded me of my unscheduled 'spa treatment' while hunting earlier this year.
Half the field suddenly went down in some black, goopy stuff but I was the only numpty that came off, landed on the backside of my RI's Grade A, who was in front, and then slid off into the mire - was picking bits of grit out of my teeth for days - still have no idea what it was I landed in but I'm still alive so I assume it wasn't toxic!

I've been through this!!! Also not quite an accident but I got stuck getting off once and had to be rescued! Beastie is tall and I'm short so have to kind of slide down him. I have safety stirrups and jods got caught on the hook bit!!! YO had to come and lift me off as ponio was wondering around looking at me with a 'what the f**k are you doing???' expression. The shame of it was jods had a massive tear and my big comfy riding knicks were on display for all the world to see!!!

Wasn't really an accident as such...

Went to ride my pony, tacked him up and was tightening his girth up but he kept breathing out. (Was in between holes of it being too slack and being tight enough to get on.) So there I was battling with his girth, it was a freshly cleaned saddle and I had some very old gloves on with not a lot of grip let.
Result? My hand slipping off and smacking myself in the eye. Que me falling completly over backwards, I didn't half get a funny look off Ed!

Many, but two of the silliest ...

I got my stirrup caught on a gate catch, had failed to tighten my girth sufficiently, and ended up sliding with my saddle very slowly under my horse's belly.

Around the same time I was hacking my very spooky youngster down a minor road, spotted a loop of rusty wire lying half on the road and half on the verge, and thought it would be a good idea to hook it with my schooling whip and flick it away into the rough grass ... I hadn't realised it was actually about 8ft long - it sprang up, caught my horse on his hind leg and I found myself sitting on the very muddy verge watching said horse trotting home without me.

Ohhh the shame....

I was on my mobile phone (yes i know!!) whilst dismounting a 12hh pony, i leaned forward to get off, he put his head down to graze and i promptly fell off, landed on my back and concussed myself while breaking my phone into peices!

Another was, cantering up a very muddy foresty track, horse slipped, fell on her knees. I stayed on, until she got back up with such force i wasnt expecting i ended up being thrown backwards off her... falling down the hill and COVERED in mud my girlie nieghed to me and started walking down after me.

My horse ran over me once!
Was leading him out of the drive, through the gates (big solid ones) when he spooked at the trailer that was parked (hidden) just the other side, he literally just ran over me; all I saw was his belly as he was going over the top of me!! Thankfully he didn't stick a hoof in while he was at it but my jods were ripped through and both of my knees were scraped and full of grit, I felt like a 7 year old with big scabs on my knees!

I also managed to get taken off with under some trees by my old pony and got tw*tted in the face by a branch a couple of days before my brothers wedding which I was a bridesmaid at. Nooooo amount of foundation could cover the big scab on my chin, classy!

I didn't dare ride for a couple of weeks before my own wedding!

My two stupidest falls:

Falling off while leaning over trying to open a gate. Spike gave me such a confused look when he saw I was on the ground!

Falling off when Spike spooked at white boards just before we went in to a dressage test. I don't that had happened to the judge before!

my silliest fall: riding a big lazy cob who drags his feet n ignores your leg (local riding school). I was really quite unhappy about being put on him instead of my usual resident nutters or youngsters.
So we're just trotting along in the indoor school and im doin everythin i can to get him to listen when he trips up, head goes down, arse goes up over it, i get catapulted off chin first into the sand and for some reason half way down open my mouth to say 'arg!' and get a full gob of sand, a grazed chin and a stiff neck. Stupid horse somehow did a full sommersault and ended up just lay down facing the other way taking the excuse for a chill out n to watch everyone laughing at me. He was absolutely fine luckily. My ego was not. lol

Oh thanks to you all, I am sure this makes us all laugh.
Some stories I nearly wee'd myself over (its not hard to do at my age), and the others just are too horrific to contemplate.
What a brave and competent lot of riders you are, we all have our absent minded moments, and that is when we can get really hurt. I broke my pelvis through not thinking first, just reacting to the situation, whilst trying to catch a loose horse attached to a lunge line!
