My boy thinks he is the stallion of the field, herding up all the mares and not letting me catch him. xD
Last year when I tried to catch him, he started galloping around the field, tail up, determened to not let me near him. In the end I gave up and went home, which meant he wasn't fed. Trust me, ever since then he didn't try so hard to run away from me!
He is starting to do it again now, so I carry carrots around with me every time I go in the field, so that I can bribe him to let me catch him.
Also he seems a lot more distracted when schooling him in the menage, which is next to his field. XD
Danny makes me laugh when he is like this, especially as he is the smallest one in the field!
Does any of your horses act differently in these Spring months?

Oh yes, currently out hacking mine is on spook alert - especially docks waving in the wind.

With regard to catching, if you are not on a yard who has strict in at night policy - if he doesn't come, leave him out.

I used to have several TB's on R&R every year out of racing. They would do the 'not coming in tonight, and I would drive off leaving them gazing at me from the top of the drive. Only ever happened once a year ............ come in when you are asked or stay out and have no hard feed or hay! They then came in every night!

Haha yeah' xD Some mares I ride seem slightly more spookier than usual' :3

I'll have to try that if Danny gets any worse, he's getting quite fat anyway because of the grass!

I have done exactly what sjp did!

This was at a yard where they HAD to come in at night. No choice. But, the YO saw me struggle and said to me, let him learn a lesson... :D

So I did. I left him out all night and all day (with permission) and by the time I was ready to try and bring him in, he was waiting nicely at the gate. Behaved himself ever since.

Yep, spring is in the air. My 2 x sec A's were going loopy yesterday morning when I turned them out. Bit worried as it was still wet & slippy.
Leaving him out is good idea - he will think twice. Also make a fuss of the other horses in his field totally ignoring him, not even eye contact, jealousy soon takes over

N'aawh' xD
I will definitely try leaving him if he runs away from me again. :3
I'm also considering using a grazing muzzle for him as he is piling on the weight, and I don't want to risk him getting laminitis as apparently he has had symptoms of it before I bought him. D:
