I feel like such a doof! I've bought a new bit, a Myler eggbutt comfort snaffle with port, to be precise. It's arrived and I'm at a loss how to fit it to my bridle!!

I assume cheek pieces go through the top 'slot' but do the reins go just on the main ring or through the bottom 'slot'? Which would have more of a "gag" action than I'd like...
Also which way up or down do I need to position the holes for the hooks (which I won't be using)?

Argh! Sorry would post a pic but don't know how to from my iPad..!

It sounds like you have bought the version with 'hooks' which are the slots. In which case yes you out reins through them.
If you didn't mean to get the one with hooks you need to swap it :)

Ah crap. I wish I could post a pic! It's got slots at the top and bottom then on one side tiny little holes - not sure what they're for!

I wanted a nice soft flexible bit for my new youngster and read good things about this one. He's in a gag right now but as soon as he's mine that'll change.

Go have a look at the myler page, they do a version of that but without the holes so it works like a normal snaffle ring wise (though in theory you could try it like that and ignore the slots)

I've had a couple of these, and if my memory serves me correctly, you hang them from the bridle so that the side of the bit ring with the slot and the small hole hangs downwards if that makes sense. I think the small hole is for a curb chain?! Again, it's been a long time, but I think that's right! The cheek pieces should go through the slots so that they lie on the outer edge of the bit furthest from the horses head therefore "holding" everything in.

I didn't use the bottom slots for the reins either, just fitted the reins as per a normal bit and it seemed to work fine.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I now have two Mylers - one with slots and one without! So far so good in the unslotted version! I might have to use the slots of jumping if he gets a bit stronger.
