What should I expect from the stud?
I have been in contact with the owners of the stallion I really want to use for my mare. He doesn't stand at stud until middle of June due to competition duties, but I can't seem to get much information from the stud.

I have never breed before and am therefore probably not asking the right questions, so could someone please give me the run down of what I need to get from the stud (for AI)?

Presumably I need a contract (?) What does this routinely contain and what should I be wary of?
Basically I feel a little out of my depth here and everyone I ask (my vet, and a friend who stands a stallion of her own) have all been very helpful but they do it so often it is all very boring to them and therefore they haven't given me the anxious owner version!

Can anyone please steer me in the right direction please?

I would look for a stud that the owner is willing to let you go and meet the stallion and talk through any concerns or queries you may have.
The stud you choose should send you a nomination form to fill in which you give all the details of your mare and her breeding ,date of birth ,vet and swab history etc.
I have just had my mare artificially inseminated and the stud were brilliant.Although she went to the vets to be inseminated the stud were willing to talk to me ,answer my questions.I was allowed to meet and see the stallion riddden and also got to see some of his offspring too which was fantastic for me.
I think if the stud are willing to talk to you and explain things to you and understand that you are new to this and want to ask questions then you cannot go far wrong.I would be wary of a stud that rushed you and were not happy to spend time with you.
Speak to your vet who will also be able to point you in the right direction.
