What is the difference between jodhpurs and breeches? Is there one?

Breeches have velcrow at the bottom where as jods dont??? Thats what ive always thought anyway!! *runs off before she gets laughed at*

Edited to say, Not literally on the bottom! I ment at the bottom of the leg.

I thought that Breeches were shorter and finish at the calf while jodhpurs go down to the ankle.

breeches finish higher up the calf - designed to be worn with long boots, whereas jodhpurs are designed to be worn by children originally with short boots

Breeches are shorter - so I always buy them because I am short in the leg - they are meant to finish mid-calf but always come down to my ankles

Breeches are meant to finish mid calf but mine are alwayslonger than that. they usually have velcro at the bottom to secure them

OMG I never knew that! I though the velcro bit was simply a modern thing and some came with and some without!

I thought breeches were looser than jods - like the ones male show jumpers (and some females) wear - with the pleats in the front. Sort of like these:

The joys of only being 5'2" for me! I always thought breeches were 'posher' than jodphurs, but it is so much easier not having loads of excess leg material when you are wearing them

A whole 1/4 of an inch taller than me!

And you are SO right - turning up the ends of jodphurs so that they don't stick over your feet is so annoying!
