Silly question, why do horses, unbacked get a dippy back?

A youngster i know is very dippy, she is the same age as my youngster and i know is unbacked, so why would she be dippy, they havent even laid over her, just let her be a baby. She was 3 this year so cant be still growing that much to be croup high that much could she? i know its a daft question

Yes, she certainly can be growing a lot at the moment. I had to give a 5 year old a year off as it was like sitting on the top of a ski slope she was so bum high. 1 year (and a foal) later she was back in work and was bult uphill. She was a trakehner. My DWB was 16.2 at 5 and ended up 17.1 at 8.
 
Oh thats good to hear, her owners were thinking maybe she had a problem, she is welsh sec D x warmblood i think, so could well be slow. I thought the ski slopes steadied off by 3 and it was just slower not so noticeable growth afterwards, but then you learn something new everyday..lol

If she is very immature it is often better not to work them too hard until they have evened out. My mare got very frustrated as she wasn't physically capable of doing what was being asked. She produced a wonderful foal and it all worked out very well as when she came back under saddle she very quickly 'caught up' with others of her own age that hadn't had breaks. I am sure by next spring the filly will look totally different

Chancer my gypsy cob at 3 was 2" higher on his bum. He is now 4 and his bloody backside has gone up 1" again - hope this is the last spurt as I don't want him too big. My WB grew 3" between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2.
