Now- I am going through a little phase:rolleyes:, that may well come to nothing (although I would love it to come to something)!
But...
I have a 5 year old highland- who is ridden, a part of me has always thought he would be far more suiting to driving, just that gut instinct. He has never been taught to long rein, and has never driven of course.
Me myself- I have long rein'd but never driven.. ever.

So all in all I fancy having a go at driving with my boy- surely how hard can it be moment- but considering we both know nothing.
What do I do and where do I go?:confused:

Where are you based? My YM is just in the process of setting up a driving business teaching both the people and horses. I have no interest in driving but we have about 5 ride and drive horses at our yard now most of which my YM has broken to harness herself :)
 
Google Scottish Carriage Driving association who will give great advice about people locally for breaking to harness and teaching you I recommend Andrew May who is in Biggar , that's not impossible from you is it he has a web site.
Good luck it is huge fun .
 
I would find out if anyone you does driving tuition and have a go. If you enjoy it then teach your boy to longrein and then look into getting him broken to drive.
 
You definitely need to ' try before you buy ' if you see what I mean. Some people struggle with sitting so far behind, and never really feel safe or in control. So find yourself a good professional, book a taster session, and see how you feel before you commit.
I'm sure you will enjoy....it's great fun ! :)

I am self taught and just had my first lesson with some wonderful feedback, cant have done too bad a job

Just make sure you take plenty of time to learn x
 
I went and had a couple of driving lessons last year as I have a pony that I think would make a good ride and drive. It was good to talk to an expert who put paid to some myths I had heard so I recommend that. I'm still not 100% sold on it, think I have been riding too long as although it was fun it was also blinking scary! So I will back this one with a view to being driven and work up to harness etc and have her out to help me step by step.
You can't have them too prepared I don't think so will be quite happy long reining him for this year out and about, have done lots of longreining.
