Silly silly Girl!

That to me is cruelty. Fly rug, fair enough valid reason. To leave a horse boiling though simply to keep it clean is appealing.

I think you mean appalling not appealing. Appealing is that you think it sounds like a good idea!I thought I'd better correct you, no offence.I feel guilty about putting a fly rug on mine when its hot, I've heard of this before with showing people, there are a lot that keep rugs on to prevent coat bleaching, really unfair on the horse.

I ended up with 5 get visits in the space of 4 days when it 30+ a couple of weeks ago. Horse over heated and her system basically crashed. (She wasn't rugged btw)

There was probably an underlying illness which didn't help as her immune system was fighting it off - but the vets said the usual trigger is stress.

So not only is it cruel, but dealing with the after effects of heat exhaustion is also very expensive!! Plus I'm panicking today and praying for rain.

I'm another who'd have taken the rug off again and hidden it in a hedge. How utterly ridiculous! While arabs may be better able to deal with the heat that some other breeds, they can still overheat! Why anyone would be so cruel just to keep a horse clean I can't even imagine! I'd have no qualms telling that owner exactly what I thought, either.
