He's the first of 9 horses/ponies who've lived on the farm at some point that's discovered a great way of getting more grass.

He swims for it! I kid you not!

Duncan was so shocked when he saw him jump in the pond and thrash about. Infact, he panicked as he thought he might drown, such was the thrashing about initially. Hence why he didn't get his camera phone out to record his moment of death!

Anyway, he swam from one end of the pond to the other, narrowly avoiding a particularly grumpy Mr Gander who's protecting the goose in the coup on the island. Got to the other side, realised the bank was too steep and turned around and swam back again! He got out by where all the cows had congregated to see what was going on. Very nearly got back in the pond to escape them! Good old Duncan secured him with a head lock whilst I put on a head collar.

Eeeeek! Our horses often stand in the pond, up to their fetlocks and drink (it's closer than the water trough!) but I've never seen one go in and swim across it before.

Oh HOW I wish I could have seen that

When there is a repeat performance (as I am sure there will be now he's figured it out) I'll be sure to have a camera handy!

So in the sales ad, can I put "has seen natural fences, including open water?" Or "regular aqua therapy sessions to develop muscle tone"?

I agree! Whilst I was concerned for Talis as he relayed the tale, I was actually disappointed to have missed it. When I got there Duncan had hold of him. I did wonder why he was so wet though, given that it's not raining!

Many many moons ago I was at a livery yard near to the West Midlands Showground - anyone who knows the show ground will know it is right next to the river. Several of the yards fields opened striaght onto the river, one particularly dry summer one livery horse managed to swim the river 3 times in order to get at the lush cow pasture the other side of the river!
