Has anyone used these successfully for mud fever? My old TB is really suffering.. he can't stay in for longer than a couple of days or he colics so I am having to turn him out. He is currently on two bute and antibiotics a day (for the third time this winter) but his legs are still sore and generally as soon as he comes off the meds his legs swell up again. I am treating it with flamazine which is definitely helping.

I have read a few things about them saying they are very good but the track down to the field is so muddy there is no way he would be able to wear them for turnout so it would just be for overnight in the stable? He is also a bit of a sensitive boy and can be funny about being messed with so how hard are they to get on and off? Would it be beneficial having them just overnight in the stable?
 
I tried these and didn't get on with them. They are designed for tiny American hooves and so were difficult to get on my TB who has dinner plates. They didn't seem to stay in place well either. I did have success with the Equilibrium close contact chaps, the neoprene ones. They are easy to get on and off and stay in place well.
 
My vet recommended them for my mare who had mud fever and multiple courses of antibiotics, steroids, flamazine etc.....
They were a faff but worked absolute wonders, you probably want spares as you will need to regularly change them to wash and you need to make sure you get the right size.
they also really helped the swelling in the fetlock.
Even the vet was surprised at just how effective they were
 
You need two sets of silver whinnys snd does need to wear them in field.

I put clean set on when came in from field, turned out next morning in same set. Machine washed muddy set over night and put on next evening.

You do need to measure carefully to get right size. And always put sandwich bag over hoof when putting on to avoid snagging.

You can use a spiral of electric tape over sock to help stay up.

It doesn’t matter if get muddy on outside, they still work.

If you need more support getting to start on getting to field, use spiral tape and pop brushing boots over top of socks. Then take brushing boots off in field.

The socks do work imo if you use them properly.
 
My friend has a horse that’s had mud fever for many years on and off and had tried everything from vets. I suggested heel to hoof or honey heal to her a while ago .

She has just messaged to say honey heal from red horse products has made an amazing difference in just a week.
 
Someone on my yard used them for a nasty case and they seemed to work really well. I checked the website and the sizing doesn't seem to be great for big horses though
 
They are fab, worked wonders on my Tb, although vet thinks it’s an auto immune disorder rather than mud fever but symptoms are the same. I’ve just posted a thread though as struggling using them in the muddy/wet field at the mo with a turnout boot over the top. My boy’s leg needs protecting above the coronet band on one leg & the socks are getting saturated & the turnout boot isn’t keeping this area clean enough.

Ginger Bear - this is my problem and worry about them... it is literally to his knees in places down the track so boots etc don't stay in place. Difficult one.. just need it to stop raining!
