Does anyone know where I can get some stirrup irons similar (in looks and function, but not in price!) to the Sprenger System 4 Safety Irons? I want to replace my awful lightweight Thorowgood "irons" as I've had enough of them, and I've always liked the Sprenger irons when I've used them at work. But I haven't got that sort of money to spend on stirrup irons! I've seen that Thorowgood do a 'T6' iron similar to the Sprenger ones, but they're still £50! And what I really don't want (as I have some of these and I hate them) are the 'hinged foot plate' type ones.
And just to get people to help me, if I can't find some Sprenger type ones I'll have to cave in and get the awful bling irons! So be warned!

D'oh, Robinsons! I looked on Derby House and Rideaway but forgot Robs! Thanks SilGathien!
Nari - hmm may have to consider them then, I've never been keen on Robs mail order and if the Thorowgood ones really are worth it... Thanks!

Ive got the ones from robinsons, I love them, have a dodgy ankle (due to 750kg of horse thinking it makes a good spot to land on, twice!!) and they help reduce the pain in it. I can now last a entire day out hunting without my ankle hurting too bad! Riding in normal irons just doesnt feel right anymore. I thought other online tack places did them though.

The Thorowgood and Sprengers are more expensive for the reason they flex front to back and side to side i.e. all ways. The cheaper copies only move front to back and have been known to bend and trap feet in the event of a fall. Personally if you can stretch to it I would have the Thorowgoods.

Thanks MrsT, that was just the thing I was wondering, whether they were a lot cheaper for a reason or whether they were the same. May have to delve a bit deeper into my purse and get the Thorowgood ones..!
Thanks everyone

have you tried them already? if not id advise you see if anyone you know has some you can try out, i hated them and another livery couldnt get used to hers either

Yes, I said in my original post that I have ridden in them at work and I really like them

Just proves though that if my boss can afford to but several sets of £90 Sprenger irons for her saddles, and I'm still on minimum wage, something has gone wrong!

Ive got the Thorowgoods, they are fab, just as good as the Sprengers IMO. You ca get them a bit cheaper if you shop around, luckily am on good terms with my tack shop owner so got them for a bargain price...
