OK, so I know the idea is canter walk canter, but I read on the BD forum that if they do a few steps of trot on the downward transition this is acceptable as long as you make the walk steps clear

Can anyone shed some light.

Whilst it is acceptable it will effect the mark a bit, plus in some ele tests there is not a lot of room for the change as you do ti across the center line ,so from a practical point of view and the fact you do have show a few walk steps means you won't really have any room for trot!

Yes, this is true. It is acceptable for the downwards transition to include a step or two of trot at Elementary, but obviously you will only get a very high mark if the transition is direct and correct. What you don't want to do is to try to screech to a walk from the canter if you don't have the canter balanced and collected enough to do a proper canter walk transition. Its better to do a few trot steps than try to do a bad direct transition. Anyway, you must show clear walk steps, and the upwards transition should be direct from walk to canter.

Remember that it is a couple of trot steps and not strides that are acceptable.

If the horse remains in good balance then I would still give a 7 with a couple of trot steps providing the upward trans is direct.

ALL downwards trans at Ele level are allowed to be progressive but ALL the upwards ones should be direct.
