i have never put my horse on a regular feed before as it just hasn’t been necessary but he has had the odd borrowed mash here and there to get some bute in when needed. i have now been recommended to put him on a joint supplement as he is getting on a bit as well as a calmer to reduce stress.
he is a good doer and competes in the summer but not so much in the winter. i really don’t want to have to go full out with balancers and everything i possibly can, i just need the most simple, cheapest option as a base for my feed to put the supplements in (powder), whilst also not making him fat. i cant have anything that needs to be soaked longer than 10 minutes so didnt know if just a handful of chaff was the way to go or is this frowned upon? all i can find online is these fancy concoctions and i just don’t need that!

Could something like Allen and Page Veteran Light work for you? It soaks in less than a minute and all of my horses, including my fussy one, love this over the summer (I switch to the Veteran Vitality in winter).

Equally a chaff like Honeychop Senior or Lite and Healthy might work, but would probably need to be dampened down if adding powdered supplements

I'd probably just try for a handful of chop and add a splash of water to damp it down and mix in the supplements. If he wont eat that then you could try something else but if you're feeding in really small quantities just for supplements then it shouldn't matter too much what it is.
