Hi. Has anyone used this feed? I have just started using it and the amounts seem huge! Beanie does not seem to be able to stomach the volume. Be interested to hear of any experiences of this food and the results,?

Thanx very much. Still be interested to hear from anyone who is curently using this feed and their opinions. Had a look at links and they are extremely interesting. Does anyone one know of an alternative. our girl is 11yrs and 14.2 irish bred. she does not hold top line well but is active and in light to medium work. At the moment she is on good grass and comes in pogged out in the morning. he is only picking at ths ss food and we have cut the amounts right back.

im feeding it! to 14:2hh welsh mare, she has 5 lucie bix, 2 handfuls lucie nuts, 2 handfuls red bag grass nuts and pura beet when compteting, has total eclipse and supplements including cider vinegar also with apples and carrots

Beanie is on lucie nuts, blue bag grass nuts and total eclipse. How long before your mare started to tuck in as beanz is a little reluctant at the mo. I think it is due to the grass she is on at present. Do you feed her the recommended amount as it is vast when it has soaked?

hi i have been using simple systems feeds for over 6 years for my horses and i would never change back to the other stuff.
I like the fact that there is no sugar in it, he is feed as naturally as possible, like horses should be............

I use Simple Systems and have done for about 10 years, have never fed the recommended amounts as mine all do well on a small amount, I use lucinuts as my base feed for about 12 horses, In summer I use a handful only as mine are at grass and I use a handful to get any medicines into teh horses that need it. In winter then I add red nuts for my skinnies, blue nuts for my not so skinnies and just the lucinuts for my fatties. I add linseed and brewers yeast and then when it gets cold I add pura beet. I increase the amount of lucinuts/rednuts as their weight dictates. All the horses love it. I only have one horse that has ever had the recommeded amount and that is a TB that arrived looking like a welfare case. It nearly killed us carrying his feed buckets. He managed to eat it all, but over a long time as a trickle feed.

I have found that once the horse is on the feed it tends to improve condition and can then have the amount of feed reduced.

thanx to all of you who have replied. Can you actually feed it dry or does it have to be wet. Beanie is not touching it at the moment and i just seem to be throwing it away.

I used this feed on and off for years but have recently given up as my cob wouldn't touch it and I was throwing it all away.
I wonder if the smell has changed ??
And no,I never fed the recommended quantity, it seemed far too much.

3 people have used this feed on my yard and now all 3 have eventually ended up going in for colic surgury. Coincidence maybe, but I wouldn't take the chance. All were getting the same one of the simple system feeds and it was most definately being fed correctly following the manufacturers guidelines, but not at the recommended amounts.

You do need to soak the ss feeds

I was interested in using this food myself if I could get it into Ireland. The biggest draw for me would have been the Non Soya diet. They also have a good flax product which is impossible to find here.

But, I also can't stand to feed a bucketload of feed. I'm a less is more, but also want zilch soya which is hard to do.

Found an amazing German company which is getting ready to break into England, don't know if I can get it here. It's called St. Hyppolyt or something of that nature. They make a wide range of products none of which contain a bean of flipping soya and not to be fed in huge quantities.

I quite like simple systems feeds, but, and it is a big but, if you fed as much alfalfa (luciebix) as they tell you to, you are in grave danger of calcium overload, the recommended quantities are vast!

I used to feed SS & then gave up. I could not keep weight on my oldie despite trying everything. I also could never get him to eat up, so was having to feed him upto 6x a day during winter it was a joke.

So last winter i fed Dengie Alfa oil, with a balancer & they all looked fab none of them heated up either.
For the summer im feeding a very small amount of Dengie Hifi lite & a small amount of Balancer. They are doing fab.

I will never go back to SS feeds & there are lot's of other feeds out there now also with low starch & sugar.

Thanx ever so much guys to all of your thoughts on ss food. I have given up on it and bought some spillers conditioning cubes and guess wat? She scoffed the lot. The horses know best, thats wat i think!!

Hi my Andulucian pony was put ontot his and went from the farrier needing to put in a new blade to trim feet as hard and strong to being unable to keep shoes on and really poor foot condition back onto normal feed and feet back to being lovely to the point of having back shoes off for the winter with no problems not even slighty foot sore the day shoes came off and was still hacked out regularly,
