Hi. I as wondering if I can pick anyones brains. I have got two bags of simple system feed. I was given them by the owner of my horse. But there are no names of the feeds on the bag and no insructions. One which looks like sugar beet pellets and when soaked looks like soaked sugar beet. The other is round hard lumps of which looks like grass. It is green in colour and smells like grass.

Does anyone feed these feeds and know what they are??
Thanks

I suspect one is sugarbeet and the other is something like luciebics.....if you soak the grassy looking ones you will end up with something that looks a bit like cow poo. If you need to find out how much of each to feed, give Jane a call at Simple System.

Hi. Yeah i have soaked both and the green one does look like cow poo, and the other one looks identical to sugarbeet. I have tried to ring her but can never get any answer. lol. Do you know how quickly they need to used up.?

The pellets will probably be unmolassed sugarbeet - this needs soaking for 24 hours. The other is probably luciebix and needs soaking for a hour or until it is a wet chop. They should last for a while as they contain no molasses or cereals. If you are only feeding these two feeds, you would need a balancer - something like Simple System's total eclipse. Why not email Jane, but usually there is someone there to answer the phone. (I saw her yesterday at a local endurance ride and know she has just come back from giving a talk in the West Country)

I think they will last fairly well, probably would need usng up within a year. Is the green stuff nuts or bigger blocks. I would say they are probably lucie nuts (alfafa) or grass nuts. My girls are are on lucoienuts, sugar beet and ruff stuff chaff. Luccie nuts are ideal for giving horses a good nutritional feed without fizz.

Well she suffers from colic and I have to be careful when changing her feed etc. She is on Blanced Show Mix which she does really on, but she has dropped condition a bit through the winter as she is not being worked as much. She is 21.
The green stuff is big blocks, round about the size of the parm of my hand.
