few things... how does it work?? looking at the website it seems that no concentrates are fed at all...
Anyone had any experiences of feeding by the system?? good or bad??

thanks :-)

I used it, but i got fed up with the wet sloppiness of it and my horses got bored with it. It does have very good reviews though, might well try it again for the new horses. They will give you an idea of feeding if you email them although they tend to advise larger than needed feeds IMO.
Then you get a distributor who will deliver for a minimum amount

SS is a very natural, forage-based feeding system with no additives like mollasses. It's expensive and because it's mainly fibre (no concentrates) it is designed to be fed in bulk... the idea being that you leave a trug and the horse witll "graze" rather than eat it all at once... except no-one ever told my TB that and he used to gorge the whole lot in one go! Their Total Eclipse supplement (linseed, brewers yeast and seaweed) is fab for coat, hooves and all-round well-being. It's not generally available at your average feed store (although some DO stock it) and they charge a hefty delivery fee so it's worth ordering in bulk (maybe a few of you can order together and share the cost of delivery?) Most horses do really well on it, if you feed as per guidelines. Hope that helps....

I use it and its great. I have used it for a variety of horses and ponies from fat natives to TBs. I don't find it expensive at all. The delivery is free if you order over £80 I think.

I didn't think one of my horses would like it, he doesn't eat more than he needs to and the amount of hard feed he will eat in the summer is minimal when the grass comes through. He will eat a large feed of simple systems all year though which is good (hes elderly and I like to keep him full!)

I still don't feed the amount they recommend though - much less for the natives, but saying that they don't really 'need' a feed. I put the feed on to soak in the morning and its ready for the evening and so on, and found that to soak it all together in one tub per horse works best for me - easier than having two or three different things soaking.

The supplements are great and my old horse no longer has cortaflex or blue chip as I use the Simple Systems ones.

It can take some getting used to and takes a while to work out how much water to put in - I now have this down to a fine art! I have several friends use it, one feeds hers very wet, the another feeds it alarmingly dry! I am somewhere in between. They are indeed very helpful at Simple Systems.

I like it for the natives as it measn they get more to actually eat quantity wise, and also for the fixxy ones as it doesn;t heat at all.

I will say its not for everyone, if your horse becomes 'loose' easily I think it can make it worse.

My experience also.

Also, I had to soak various things for different amounts of time (yes you can bung it all in together and soak but that seemed to make it really really sloppy).

The idea behind the whole thing is good, and if you are local/have local supplier then worth a try. Otherwise you can follow the principles using different feeds. I like mixing and matching from Dengie, Spillers, Allen & Page etc I dont just follow the advice from one manufacturer but then I have one horse who is very intolerant to most feeds so that kind of narrows it down for me! He used to paint his stable with his simple systems feeds.
