Not used it this year as started using chestnut feeds which is better and cheaper. Basically I used it for my eventer that does not keep weight on well, especially in the eventing season. I found it ok, not amazing, but it filled him up but did not maintain his weight as well as chestnut feeds has so I won't be buying it again.
Getting a picky Tb to eat it all canbe a bit of a struggle. I really liked the products, but alone they are not enough for my lad. He has them with Topspec and oil which he looks fab on.
found it great and cheap in summer but not too good in winter as i ended up feedig so much of it he was getting a big bucket full (recomended amount) with sugerbeet and was not keeping weight on and it was a huge amount of hard feed to eat at one time but that was for a cob on luci nuts ans um mollased suger beet
I use it on my TB mare- who suddenly dropped weight- she loved it- licked her bowl clean- it wasnt love at first sight thou- she did turn her nose up at it as first but I just left the bowl on there and told her that was her only choice! but it really worked- its hard to work out rations as there are only a few instructions on the packets- but you can feed large quantities without worrying about fizz- as its pure fibre and she used to spend 30min eating her feed which was great- and her cribbing virtually dissappeared- in my opinion its worth every penny just for that fact!
Put my mare (tb) on it, thinking I was doing the 'right' thing and after recommendations...after a couple of months she refused to eat it...didnt notice any difference in her either tbh.
I used it when my horse was having colic problems as it was all fibre. It worked well & he picked up however now he is working again it just doesn't seem enough for him. Despite the enormous quantities you have to feed!
He is now back on a conditioning mix with unmolassed beet (same as ss) & alfa a oil - looking great!
I started feeding my highly strung TB with Simple System just before christmas and she has never looked or behaved better. This is the first winter she has held her weight consistently. She always use to come out her box in the mornings looking as if she had been a little colicy (spelling!) over night but i have not seen this at all since i've changed to SS. They are such helpful sales people and really know their stuff-always deliver on time and will help you with any questions you have.
As much as it seems like you could be feeding an elephant with the amount of feed they suggest it has certainly worked out no more expensive than 'normal' feeds for me. The soaking etc may initially seem a faff but once you get into the routine it really isn't a problem. I think what they say about how a horses natuaral diet is mainly fibre with little or no cereals is very important to remember and i think we may experience less colic issues and behavioural problems if this is cut out a horses diet (thats just my opinion though). One of my horses initially turned her nose up at it but I just added some mint and now she eats every last bit without me adding any.
Hope this is helpful.
