i am thinking on moving my horses onto the simple system feed range, mainly for getting more water into them as i never think they drink enough
just now i am feeding:
14yo in work (round stubbs scoop)
1 hi fi lite
1/4 alfa a lite
1 soaked speedi beet
2 small handfulls of pasture cubes
a local company vit/min, flax oil & pro/pre biotic mix - add salts when worked hard
he gets that twice a day

yearling
basically gets the same but not the salts and 1/2 soaked speedi beet

they are both looking great on what they are getting just now so i am worried about changing over but i do want to get more water into them and they will drink less when it starts to get colder too

so do any of you use SS feeds and what do you think i should move onto - dont want bags and bags of feeds lying about would rather they both got much & such the same

gold star for anyone that had read all that!

If you just want to get more water into them, why not just soak the feeds you are using already! Seems a shame to change if you are happy with how they are on their current diet! The chaff doesn't soak quite as well as the cubes, so if that bothers you, you could swap the chaff content for Dengie Alfalfa Pellets which you can probably get from your normal feed store.

I had my mare on simple systems years ago! I stopped feeding it in the end cos she is dufficult to keep weight on and was very lethargic when ridden. I fed luci nuts (soaked) and grass nuts they do 2 varieties depending on horses temperament. I also gave total eclipse which is their vit/min supplement! U need to feed a hell of a lot and they deliver to the yard monthly so need to order in bulk! I think if it's not broken don't fix it if your horse is ok on current diet maintain it! If they don't seem dehydrated don't worry u can add water to feeds anyway

personally dont like / reckomend it, why nottry somethinglike quencher in there water I soap my nuts by adding 1/2 scoop water to all feeds maybe add some more

Why not use more soaked sugar beet pulp? Simple Systems is a complete "system" in a way you have to forget what you know about feeding at the moment. I know lots of people are thrilled with it, no digestive problems, do endurance, etc. etc.

I fed it, but my horse got fat very quickly, he loved it all, but didn't seem to have any "go." But he is lazy at the best of times! I think it is good for hyper horses or those with digestive problems.
