Simple systems or Pure feed company??

As the title really... which would you use and why?

I'm maybe looking into changing my boys diet again, he has had ulcers in the past so he needs a good feed thats good for his belly! I'm was happy with his feed until i found a part of a dead bird in the bag and that certainly wouldnt be good for his body! :confused:

Never used pure feeds but heard good things. My boys were on ss this winter, really impressed with them and their products, especially their total eclipse and joint eclipse supps.
 
Depends mainly on what you are wanting to feed - what is he on currently? and also what you can get hold of - do any feed merchants near you order either of the brands in as postage can add alot?
 
I used simple systems when I first got my baby KWPN(he was 4and 17h but still growing) The volume of the stuff once soaked was crippling!And it took a while and many tempting additives to get him to eat it. He also did not hold weight well through winter. So I changed. Pure feeds did not exist then so I was using Allen and Page calm and condition+speedibeat+alfa oil+copra+ balancer. He was still hard to keep weight on.

Now using Pure Easy combined with meadow pasture and ad lib hay..........He could do with being a bit leaner now the grass is coming through! So Pure feeds would get my vote. The horses love it. They look well on it,and above all its EASY!
 
He's currently fed on Alpha a oil and Allen and page C&C (he lost alot of weight being at horspital from fracturing his skull) but was thinking of changing him to AP Fast fibre now he's gone tubby(Tubby for a tb that is) but so still so wary of changing feeds. He is looking brilliant on this! added he has brewers yeast, magnesium and a little salt.

I was so dissapointed to find part of a dead animal in the bag of alpha. I wouldnt have started thinking about changing otherwise. I'm still in two minds as at first it would be expensive to start feeding SS with a £10 delivery and its looking to like it will be more expensive too.

I do wonder weather to stay put, in two minds at the moment
 
Tom was on as for over a year did him ok, but the amount of feed I had to give him at the recommended rate was madness, he took ages to eat it all too.
Tom is now on the pure horse feed, he loves it, he looks well on it and i don't have to feed as much
 
I personally think SS and Pure Feeds are expensive for what they are. SS is a ballache with all the soaking and Pure Feeds are only sold in 15kg bags. I looked into swapping to pure feeds but i found my feed bill would almost double and i'd be buying less volume. So im sticking with Allen & Page thanks!!
 
Put my lad on Simple systems last autum and he has never looked better, not lost weight over winter at all. He took to it straight away and is really flourishing on it. I spoke to them regarding what feeds they recommended for him and they were really helpful.
Not tried Pure feeds so can't help with that.
 
not a big fan of alfalfa so that rules out SS really. Like Toast says I think they're rather over priced for what they are. Alot of the horses on my yard are fed a fibre based diet.....my boys feed is based on Allan and Page fast fibre ( he needs low starch but there other products are good to) with linseed and vitamins and minerals as required. Others in the yard feed either fast fibre of speedibeet as their base feed, the skinnier horses also have some fibre nut things and then obviously whichever vitamin supplements .
 
I thought SS was brilliant and fed it for years until I had an issue with quality which the company never addressed. Throwing away four bags of feed with no compensation is far from amusing! So.. we changed and to my complete amazement we had, for the first time in ten years, no sweet itch all last year. I had previously been told that alfalfa can irritate but didn't believe it. We now use a very ordinary mixture of Fast Fibre, Speedi Beet and Top Chop Lite, no hassle, no overnight soaking, no quality issues and best of all, no sweetitch.
 
Not sure about ds but purefeeds when I worked it out would cost me £1 per day more than Allen and page!!

I have a native so to help keep her slim she has chopped oat straw as her chaff, its called honey chopped oat straw but is just plain despite the name. It took me ages to find as she can't have alfalfa or molasses.

I must admit the £ of both put me off hugely! Why don't you switch him to the ff (no need to add chaff so less bird worries too lol!) along with your current additives. Both ours are on ff, it really is brilliant stuff, and they love it. If you feel he needs a bit more condition on it then just add some microionized linseed - really super stuff and economical to feed, doesn't heat ours up either which we really appreciate!
 
I have swapped mine and my liveries horses all onto pure feeds. They all love it and are doing very well on it. I find that you have to feed less volume but it lasts them just as long as twice as much of the traditional type feed. I would say that my feed bills have remained about the same. I feed the Pure easy to most of the horses, with one horse on Pure working and another on Pure stud. I order at least 20 sacks at a time and it is Only £10.50 a sack with a total of £5 delivery from efeed.co.uk.
 
ive switched onto simple systems- you DONT have to soak everything!

mines only for her snack ball an bulk....not to put weight on etc

i am seeing it as a months trial :)
 
Hmm ok I take my comment back this morning! I'm going to have to try Pure Easy as my mare today refused point blank to eat her AP ride and relax (she's been going off it for a week)
 
Have never used Pure Feeds but changed from Allen & Page to Simple Systems blue bag grass nuts and ruff stuff grass chaff about 8 months ago.

Oddly, my boy used to get a very puffy sheath and very itchy skin. This year, we have hardly had to stop at all out riding for him to have a scratch, and sheath normal.

Wouldn't go back to processed feeds now.
 
I've recently changed to Pure feeds from Calm & Condition and I love it. He'd really dropped off over the winter and was getting huge feeds and not making too much difference although slight liver damage was partly to blame. He turned his nose up at Pure Condition to start with so I started off mixing it half and half with C&C and then gradually changing the % He's on it neat now and eating it fine and starting to look so much better. It probably is more expensive although I'm hoping to buy in bulk next time as somebody else on the yard has just gone onto it.

I have to go away for work sometimes and it's a relief to know that if I need to ask a friend to make up feeds, they just need to chuck a scoop into a bucket and a splash of water and away we go.
 
Mine has been on Pure Condition for a couple of months now. The cost of delivery is included in the prices on the website so it is easy to order in bulk, no trips to a feed merchant. It is actually working out cheaper for me than the cocktail of conditioning cubes, chaff, beet, suppliments etc that mine was on before. She is also having smaller feeds, taking longer over them and has gain weight and muscle since. The feed seems great quality and looks and smells gorgeous.

I looked at simple systems but it seemed so complicated, all the different things and the soaking etc where as Pure Feeds is just one bag and can be fed dry or damped down.

I'd recommend it based upon my experience.
 
My mare suffers from ulcers, she is on Pure Feed Condition Pellets and Simple Systems Red Bag Grass Nuts. Theres is no rule saying you can't combine the two!!

However having just recieved my last order from Pure Feeds, its actually working out very expensive so I wont be ordering from them again after this and will be totally switching to Simple Systems.

The Pure Feeds is around £15 for a 15kg sack and Simple Systems equivilant is £10.50 for a 20kg sack. I've got 2 horses so £15 for 15kg when they are eating 2 sacks a week is working out very expensive. Don't get me wrong the feed is amazing but I can get the same from Simple Systems for much better value.
 
Just about to stick my skinny tb on Pure Feed's Pure Condition, so I'll see how he goes. I don't have the storage to order in bulk, and so I'm paying 15 odd quid a bag, but its a complete feed, so no need to add chaff, balancer etc which ought to save on pennies.
I'll be feeding him the recommended 2kg a day, so I'll see how he gets on.
 
My mare was on simple systems for about 6 months, we then moves yards where there was more grass and she then on refused to eat it!!! i have swapped to havens natural balance (no added sugar) and hifi mollasses free, although i do still use SS total eclipse as i get so many compliments on how my girls coat looks!!
 
I've not tried pure feeds but have done SS. Fom what I could see it was all different forms of Alfa Alfa at expensive prices. I've now opted for fast fibre and ready grass, when needed add some grass nuts.

I had a problem getting hold of ss had to travel over ten miles where the shop 3 miles away has everything I need and a lot cheaper.

Instead of adding their eclipse I opted for charnwood mill linseed.
