Since having horses do you keep up with your beauty regime?

When I was a teenager I wouldn't leave the house without the full face on. Nowadays, I only ever put on make up if I'm going somewhere special - and that doesn't mean going down the pub - our local is (fortunately) muddy boot friendly and with quite a lot of "horsey" regulars. If I went there looking smart and with make-up on it would be more shocking than going in the usual scruffs. I have an office job, but there's no need to dress up/make up for that, as I'm not public facing at all.

Last time my hair was cut, I actually got OH to trim about 2 or 3 inches off (but it's long and straight anyway, so not as scary as it might seem!). I colour my hair (at home) as and when I get round to it - usually not often enough to properly cover the few greys that I have!

Keep my fingernails short and don't paint them (but that's to do with an irrational superstition of my own, which I developed in childhood and won't try to explain here). Toenails get painted in the summer however, just in case I decide once in a blue moon (or should I say warm day) to wear sandals to work.

Have to look after the eyebrows otherwise I too (like someone above) would end up with a monobrow.

However, the most important thing in my almost non-existent beauty routine is that I am very diligent about cleansing and moisturing, every morning and night.

If I can't be at the yard because I have to work then the yard can come to me...
See my dad says this, he says the porch stinks because of my boots- i don't smell anything :D
I can't smell it in my car or anywhere else, but I can when I am in the office, nice to take a deep breath and count down until I can be free out in the fresh air with my mare.

All the fresh perfectly painted faces of the women around me spraying scent all over themselves every 5 blinking seconds, no wonder everyone is coughing nowadays.. spraying that ***** around. With the pictures of kids/husbands around them and shutting down the internet with cosmo on when the Director walks in...

Ha Ha I have pictures of my horses and my puppy dog, muddy boots next to me and sit here looking like a tramp (on days I don't need to look a bit more human) and click shut H&H when ever someone walks to close to the desk oh how different we all are...

There have been too many times to mention where I've been sat at my desk (I'm an estate agent) after I've been down the yard, to take down clients particulars and noticed with horror:eek: that I haven't wash my grubby hands and fingernails!

Or when I'm sitting down feeling itchy between my cleavage, rummage down to pull out a long stringy bit of hay :D

Ha ha I had to do that in Yoga the other night !!

I always wish I could be more strict with myself - I could be painting my nails and watching the tv at the same time etc but instead I just sit there in a vegetative state I've got a long fringe that hides my eyebrows and some days I just wash it instead of all of my hair to freshen it up from a hat flattening schooling sesion !

I have also got really hairy legs most of the time but do get them waxed every 4 weeks

I desparately need a hair cut, and actually got round to booking an appt for last week, but cancelled at the last minute to go hunting instead!!

I do my nails once a week. I wear makeup every day! Fake tan when I'm going on a night out. Have my eyebrows threaded once/twice a month. I haven't had my hair cut in forever though! but I'm lucky as it's very healthy and shiny and doesn't split. I go the hairdressers though to get my fringe tidied up as in most hair dressers its free! :D I still do go out on shopping sprees though. In fact of to the new Westfield centre on Monday :D

I must look a bit odd sat at my desk sniffing my hands and pulling odd faces!

Hahah! I've been doing exactly the same this morning!

I always keep on top of certain things; 1. My hair - mum is a hairdresser so I don't really have an excuse (I get it free!) 2. My nails - either painted or acrylics (done by myself because otherwise it would show off the muck underneath!) 3. Body hair! Ewww.. I use an epilator instead of shaving because it doesn't grow back as quick :D

Oh but I rarely wear make up or do anything with my hair for work or the yard or most places actually.... today my hair styled itsself (overnight) into a lovely fluffy wavy mess!

Oh dear; well I try my best! But silk purses/sows ears comes to mind :D However, I NEVER leave the house (even at the crack of sparrow f**t) without make up even if its just mascara and lippy.

Hair doesn't get 'professionally' done as often as I would like, but I tend to cut it myself (its long and straight) and it gets highlighted twice a year or when funds allow.

The nails are a problem - always clear or pale pink varnish, long on the left hand but usually stubby on the right hand from stuffing too many haylage nets! And I should wear gloves more often :)

I always keep an emergency 'repair kit' in the car 'cos you never know when you might need it!

Well on one hand I have look to really smart and well groomed for my job,but I don't put on make up to go to the yard and after being there for any period of time, I always look less than fantastic. Horses look great, I look like something my dogs would put back...

However I do keep on top of the basics, hair, eyebrows etc. Nails have to stay short. I did try the "you will never break these gel nails - they will last at least 3 weeks". Lasted 4 days.

The local tack shop actually didn't recognise me when I walked in dressed (fully suited and made up) for work - and heels!.

I've also always had a horse so I have grown up scruffy :).

Actually there are a few things I do.

I always cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day and I use a moisturiser with UV filters for the day.

I shower every night and wash my hair although I don't often dry it, not unless I'm going out somewhere the next day.

I pluck my eyebrows once a week and use a face scrub once a week. I shave reguarly and use body lotion after the shower.

I get my hair cut reguarly (every 8 weeks) at a nice salon as mine
goes like rats tails otherwise.

I do my own nails at least once a week although it's probably a waste of time as they chip the next day!

I do a big clothes shop 3/4 times a year where I go and splurge but the rest of the time I rarely buy things for myself.

However in the day if I'm just going up to the stables I never wear make up, it's just a waste of time! I also wear the same old stinky horse clothes and jacket so yes I do look a bit of a mess up the yard!

When I come home though I do put on some non horsie jeans and a non horsie top so I at least look normal the rest of the time!

When I do go out though, wether it be during the day or out with OH at night or meeting friends then I love to get dressed up with nice make up and perfume and jewellry ect.

I'm like jeckle and Hyde... Dirty horse woman one min and pampered princess the next! :)

No need to look rough, just use the scissors on your own hair BEFORE you cut the horses tail. Clippers can be adapted with a fine blade, but you need a willing partner.
If you have one good outfit, make sure you have a bath then pop into a perfumery for a free spray, then you are ready to go out on the razz.
If you want a new b'f make sure he does not see your bedroom, with its litter of wood shavings, and lingering sniff of saddle soap.

two stories about cleanliness and horses

one - Dad very unimpressed when he had to unblock my plug hole in the bath to find it full of mud, shavings, straw, hay, a polo mint, and several pony nuts

two - Dad even less impressed when the hoover bars stopped spinning. In rage I pulled the hoover head off the long tube, to find the ENTIRE long metal tube blocked with a rope like mix of hair, straw, shavings, polo mint.......

No, luckily I am a natural beauty ;)

I always make sure I have nice horsey clothes though, I like to look smart for clients, I'd hate to turn up a scraggy old mess and give the wrong impression :p

I rarely wear makeup, if I do it's minimal. I have soft freckles, so my lightly pigmented skin gets rid of the washed out look. ;) HA. I hated being ginger and freckley at school, but I actually quite like it now.... Saves on foundation!

I never cut my hair, it's long, full of volume & red, so looks like it's styled when it's not.

The only things I really do are use a face scrub in the morning shower, use my aussie miracle conditioner & a face wipe before bed.

My beauty what now? O.o
I raise calves for a dairy farm, and run a livery yard. Add two kids into the mix, and my beauty regime consist of trying not to skip in muck, picking straw & hay out of hair, and remembering to tip the straw/hay combo out of my wellies in the yard not the kitchen.
that said, back in my teens & 20s, I had a massive beauty regime and gave two hoots about what I looked like!

Well I have had horses in my life since I was 9yrs old so not sure I can say it has affected my beauty regime. I currently do not have a horse and have not now upped my beauty regime. I manage to keep myself presentable but I do not make masses of effort, just make sure I look smart for work really, makeup done and tidy hair :D plus clean, non horsey smelling clothes :D

No!! I wish I did as I feel a tramp most of the time! I never get my nails done, not that iv got any to get done! I cut my own hair as dint have time for hairdressers! It's long and wavy so can't tell it's never cut straight! The only thing I do is dye it as I get lots of grey strands at the front! As for clothes shopping, i'll buy something normally from tack shop/horsey event (hate normal shops!!) and say it's for best. A week later I'm in it mucking out! My partner thinks I'm gross! He hates eau de horse which is what I normally smell of! I have a nice bath once a night, then go straight out yo horses in my pjs and skip out! Don't smell of roses for long!!

Yes! Don't like feel like a scruff ALL the time, scrubbing yep once a week is good for the soul. That and I have to look the part when I'm performing, also I'm sponsored by Bourjois Paris & the face of one of their mascaras .... don't think I'd get very far if I didn't spend time grooming myself after grooming the horse. :p

:p ive never had a manicure... would be a waste of money... i keep my nails short to limit the amount of horse crap under there...

i only wear make up and "do" my hair if and when im going out at the weekend...

the dog, horses, and kids at work don't really care what i look like! :p
ive always had horses since i was about 11... so the regime hasn't changed. beuatifying has never been high on my adgenda!

(ive just painted a rather beautiful and glamerous picture of myself there havent i?!)

It's faltered recently but generally my hair/nails/waxing gets done every 6-8 weeks and I regularly pluck/shave if need be. Makeup I try to do as reg as possible but like I said recently due to other reasons I've been very very lazy daisy on this.

As well as having a horse, I work full time on a farm so the majority of the time I am covered in straw, poo and god knows what! However underneath it all I am a bit of a girly girl and on my days off and when I'm not at the yard I do like to make an effort to scrub up a bit!

If I didn't have horses I'd be a lot more glamorous but a lot less happy!

Before horses:
Keep the eyebrows in shape, a bit of make-up for special occasions, hair done every 1-2 years if it's really desperate and i bleach my top lip (even though no one else really notices apparently ) coz otherwise i worry i might get a moustache ha ha! :o
After horses:
Hair - looking worse by the day :D
Eyebrows - meeting in middle and threatening to take over face
Tasch - Still not noticable but i know i haven't done it in a while
Make-up - Strangely more mascara useage than normal for me but everyone at my yard wears make-up and i feel like a right plain jane without it... but i can't be bothered with any of the other stuff :D
