Has anyone got or had one of these?
I've seen one for sale through a trailer dealer, apparently its all aluminium. I like it as its got loads of room infront, although its a bit old fashioned to look at.
Just wondering what people's thoughts are?
Thanks

I have a Sinclair. The sides and the rounded bullnosed bits are aluminium; the roof is fibreglass; the floor, jockey door and ramps are wooden.

It's great to tow, follows the car just like a trailer should! The only downside I found is the front ramp, because of the one piece roof construction and the fact that the ramp is hidden behind a door the opening isn't as high as Ifors or Rice type trailers and the ramp is narrower. I don't use the front ramp to offload as I'm worried that my horse may bash her head on the roof, but it's great for me to toodle up and down. The ramp can also be left up like a stable door.

Sinclairs are now old, I'd say at least 20 years since the last one was made but I've found that it's very solid. Mine has the flip over latch for reversing that stops the brakes locking on.

ETS that my horse is 16.2 and I've happily let ponies up to 14h off down the front ramp.

I have two Sinclairs, love them! But mine aren't Alustars and I can't say I've ever seen one of those. They haven't been made for at least twenty years but both mine are still solid but have had their wooden parts replaced. They tow well and the two horse ones are light (one of mine is a treble). Tricky loaders seem to get over their fears with them.

AFAIA Sinclairs are designed for horses upto 16hh, but my treble does have a section of the roof that is attatched to the door so goes away with it and I've had horses upto 16.2 travel quite happily in both trailers.

They are fab trailers and I really can't think why no-one has taken them on and started making them again.

ETA you can find parts for them on Ebay, I even found a band new set of stickers for mine :)

I have a Sinclair Ambassador. I like it, it is a lovely smooth trailer to tow and my two travel well in it. They much prefer it to when we borrow my sister in laws Ifor.

The front ramp is narrow but that doesn't worry mine they tootle down it a treat. My front door is full height so no problem with head room, they must have changed the design slightly from the one 9tails has. The breast bars are quite high on mine and not adjustable. My ponies are 14.2 and the bar is pretty high on them, would be too high for a smaller pony. The front is wider than a lot of trailers so plenty of room for heads and haynets. The extra width also means I don't have to swing the partition over to front unload.

The weak spot on mine is the fibreglass roof, it has sagged and does need patching. Still can't grumble too much as everything else on it is perfect.

Mine has a ply floor with rubber coating. It is in good condition but I am planning on upgrading the floor to aluminium with rubber coating next spring simply because it is the original floor and I feel it must be time to change it.

It does look a bit shabby I suppose when you park it next to others, but look on the bright side, people will pass it over and steal a different one.

Thanks very much. The one I've seen is all aluminium so I guess that its been redone at some point. I think il go for the one I've seen as I really like the massive area in the front, I can put a chair in there and sit with my horse if its raining and get changed in there etc :)

Just jumping on this very old thread as there are Sinclair owners on it! Have any of you had your back ramp re-sprung? Mine is soooo heavy and I'm beginning to struggle to lift it alone (yet travel most places alone!) and I'd like it re-sprung as my other option is to sell up and go for a more modern trailer :(

I got an all aluminium Sinclair Sovereign. Bought it new but it has had an Ifor Williams aluminium floor with rubber put in as the old wooden floor with liquid rubber was making me feel a bit uneasy. I have also changed the rear ramp as it had started to deteriorate (it was ply and liquid rubber), now it is a ramp with lighter rubber on top so much lighter to lift.
I have changed the two axels a few years ago as they had started to rust (everything else is aluminium and plastisol). The front step to grooms board was replaced with aluminium. Sinclair's welded on two aluminium tie rings to the back of the trailer on my request. Tyres have been changed a few times over the years. Lastly I changed the old rear lights for LEDs as one of the bulbs kept dropping off.
I feel like I got a fairly "newish" trailer even though it is now quite old. I was planning to keep it for at least another 10 years but I might now how to exchange it for a larger one as my 17hh horse is a bit to large for this model of Sinclair.
