I have an Ifor Wiiams 401. We tow it with a Freelander and it seems good. Very stable and my both my ponies travel well in it (one 14.3hh seasoned traveller and one 13hh 3yr old who hadn't been in a trailer before).
I really like it as they have more room then in a double trailer. The only downside I can see is that it is quite short lenthwise, not a problem for me but I'm not sure how it would be for a bigger horse (although mine is an older model).

We tow an Ifor 401 with a 2L turbo diesel Mondeo. Car tows it fine and horse travels in it well. Never had any probs with it.

Me too! Now for the dull legal bit about driving with trailers but without B+E entitlement!
If you passed your driving test after Jan 1997, you only have a B entitled licence, so unless you sit the additional B+E test, you are limited to towing a 750kg unbraked trailer or... a trailer/vehical combo as below (both criteria must be met);
- The trailer's Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) must be less than car's kerb weight AND
- The trailer's MAM plus the car's gross weight must be 3.5t or less.
E.g.. my set up is;
Ford Mondeo, 2.0l tdci (130bhp, 6-speed engine- nice and powerfu/torquey!), kerb weight 1505kg, gross weight 2035kg (rated to tow 1800kg)
Ifor Williams HB401, unladen weight 770kg, MAM 1450kg (downrated by IW HQ and new plate fitted by IW dealer, all legit as long as new MAM is within the range stamped on the hitch) giving a load capacity of 680kg.
So trailer MAM (1450kg) is less than car kerb weight (1505kg) AND
Trailer MAM (1450kg) + car gross weight (2035kg) = 3485kg which is less than 3.5t.
Car is towing ~ 1300kg which is well within it's capability, well under it's own kerb weight and had no problems at all going up/down hill and even got in/out of field where 4x4s were being towed in and out, probably as we were a lighter overall outfit. It's the weight ratio between car and tow load that matters, as well as taking plenty care while driving.
Yes, my car will go through brakes/tyres/clutch/suspension quicker than average, but it's well maintained and does the job just fine.
I love my single trailer (as does my mare who likes the extra space compared to half a double plus she knows it's all her's, no one to sneak in and steal her hay!), it's easy to drive (if my car fits through a space, so will the trailer! Plus it tends to corner the same line as my car).
They are like rocking horse poo to find second hand though!
