what are peoples take on them? i cant afford one so wont be buying any sort of trailer atm, or even within the next decade but i've only ever seen one in the flesh and thought it looked like a little baked potato stand. they just seem as sturdy as their 2 birth models

My friend has just emailed me to ask if I know anyone that wants one as she is selling hers!! She has a 16hh Hunter and has been all over in hers with no problems at all, just selling it as Mare is in foal so she now needs a bigger one!

Personally I dont like them , they may well be sturdy but i just get a picture in my head of it tipping over

I'm hoping to be able to take a girl from the yard to shows if her mum will be the 'experienced' driver with me driving on provisional. They have a double trailer and have said I can do this (if it's allowed) but i think a single would be best option for now.

WOOW i think they look really flimsey and claustraphobic inside my horse travels better with another horse like most so if i can i get someone to come with me id neva have that option thow and id hate it ! heard bad reports about single trailers in the past and i would just neva have one !

I had one a good few years ago. It was great. Never had any problems towing it. Certainly never tipped over. The horses travelled like a dream in it. I eventually sold it as we bought a brand new 510 and the new owner never had any problems with it.

I think the new ones are pretty good and maybe safer if you only ever travel one horse as there will be even weight distribution. I dont like the old style ones but I really like the new Ifor ones.

I dont think they would sell them if they where not safe as it wouldnt be worth their while.

I do understand peoples doubts though.

When I was looking for a trailer light enough to tow my little cob in with my car, I look at single trailers.

I bought the Bateson Derby - big enough for two 14.2 - 15 hand ponies or take out the partition and it is fine for a 16.2.

I was advised by the dealer who was happy to sell me either a small single or small double that singles were harder to resell and most people wanted the option to take a second horse occasionally.

Personally I prefer the small double, I can lend it to a friend to take out her two ponies with her landrover or just two my little chap with my car. I can also lend it to another friend without the partition to take out her 16 hand horse so it is more flexible in its use.

I have towed a single trailer - no problems - it was cheaper to hire and I only was taking my TB out that day.

As a kid we had one for many years. The space is a little bigger for the horse than a double. To be truthful, I havent spotted one in years, must look out.

We had one for the sake of the car, it was not a good towing machine and also so we did not have to fend off requests for lifts.

Would I have one again? No because because now days cars have improved, the space a double provides etc etc.

We have a single ifor trailer, have had it for 14 years and it is fab. Regularly travel 16.2 WB in it, there is more leg room and unsteady travellers seem great in it. I would love a double though as we have 2 horses and now have a vehicle to tow 2 and have to decide who is going to what show!!

Also get some funny looks turning up at BE events and county shows in it!

A friend of mine has just sold hers, it was very useful for her for 2 reasons - firstly to fend off requests for lifts! And secondly because, rightly or wrongly, she was told by several people that because its MAM was less than 1750kg (just!) she was OK to tow it on a post 1997 licence. She only sold it because pony can no longer compete!
It was wider than I expected I have to say, and looked pretty stable to me.
