I jumped my first single phase on Sunday and it was in the British Novice. The first 6 fences were obviously 90cm, and I think that the last 6 fences were 1m.
How much in height do the last 6 fences go up? Is it 10cm or does it vary with the classes. Sorry but I don`t have the new rule book.
Thanks. BTW I do like the idea of the last 6 being higher and it doesn`t matter if you go clear or not, unlike the 2 phase.
 
Height increase is normally around the 10cm mark which is the max allowed under rules. However, if the next class is less than 10cm higher than the current class then they may go up less to save having to put them down again. Example, if a dsco is followed by a 1.05 open then the second section is likely to be around 1.05 rather than 1.10.
 
well the rule book says the second part, should be bigger than the first part...... does not mention any amount, & as the second part isnt a "jump off" then it would seem that it does not have to conform to the 10cm rule....
 
second part is "second part"...! just as two phase, has a second phase it doesn't have a jump off !!!
a bit picky i know, but it does make a difference !
 
Ah but jump-off is not a technical term. I believe The BSJA state that horse with equality of faults (lowest number) will then go through to a second timed round to determine placings. Jump-off is not mentioned.

Thus second part becomes second round in single phase. If it was not classed as a second round then the fences would not be permitted to be above the class height. I think this is the key point.
 
but..... if you had 4 faults in the first part and went clear you would beat a horse that had 4 faults in the 2nd half that was slower than you.

Then i'm confused....what's the difference between this and Table A4 (1 round against the clock) !?

Take your point about the DC though....
 
I like them as you feel you get your monies worth if you have a fence down. However they are very long classes to sit thru as everyone gets into the jump off.....
 
Maybe but most arn't that long- I've done a couple and they've only been 14 fences long so only 2 more than a normal first round clear!

Seems quite unfair really because for one BN DC you may only need to clear 14 fences, whereas last week there was A7 at Hartpury and I jumped 17 fences for a double clear...
 
why isnt jump off a technical term....?
in 2 phase, not sure about single phase, you do not have to have a double in the 2nd part...if it were a jump off you would...! ( as long as there were a double in the first round )

complicated innit !
