I am after a single horse trailer. Most likely a new one since second hand are like hens teeth. But I am not sure what to go for? I like the cheval liberte - it has good suspension and barn doors at the back so the horses can step into trailer. I have never understood why a horse needs a ramp? But anyway, what is worrying me is that you don't hear much about them. Everyone seems to tow an ifor. Is that because the chevals are no good?

I have no experience of the CL trailers, but do own a 403, and absolutely love it. It's light and balanced to tow, light enough to be man handled in tight spaces, wide enough inside to tack up if it's raining (even with my extra wide highland!!) and generally robust construction. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I have a friend who had one and it was a good trailer but not as robust/ heavy duty as the ifor Williams for example the front ramp seemed to "bend" when she unloaded him although he isn't a small horse. That being said if I was looking for a single trailer there would be no reason that I would choose an ifor over a cl.

I am indeed rog. Most probably with a Nissan x trail (don't have the vehicle yet). Don't suppose you know if cheval liberte allow you to downplate from new like ifor do? I know ifor give you a selection of plate weights to chose from

Easiest way it to contact a Cheval dealer

Don't know about the Cheval but can recommend the Ifor. Also if you ever had to reverse your horse out for some reason how would that be without a ramp?

Cheval will only down plate NEW trailers, they refused to down plate my cheval trailer, although she did tell me i could buy a new vin plate off the internet and have the info stamped on it. I have a double lightweight cheval trailer and tow it with an x trail with enough room for a 500kg horse with tack etc on a b licence. It tows well, just make sure that you get a 4wd version. We have been sold a 2wd version despite informing the garage we needed a 4wd and an x trail. Am currently trying to find out where we stand as it was falsely sold.

No experience with the CL single trailer but I have a CL double trailer and love it. Ligthweight and easy to tow and manouvre by hand. I also like the fact the back and side doors can open up if you didnt want to use a ramp, also like the fact the side ramp is on the left side of the trailer in case I ever needed to unload the horses quickly I can do so on a verge not into a road.

I called them and YES for under £20 they can down plate any new or old Cheval trailer

I also called them, the ones in Yorkshire as nearest to me and she told me that they wouldn't do them unless they were bought brand new from them and that down plating was requested when trailer was ordered.

I have found parts for them to be quite expensive, my trailer needs 3 new gas struts as they have all died and no longer work and cheval quoted me £44 each plus p&p and told me that i wont find replacements any where else, and im struggling, something to do with them being short ones. Am looking into replacing them with springs.

did you call the Cheval or the dealer?

If a dealer then call the number in the link I posted = horses mouth which seems an appropriate saying for this site

Talking to someone I know and she has a Cheval, she loves it as it's very light to tow but says if she had to park it outdoors she'd probably go for an Ifor as she doesn't think the Cheval as robust outside in all weathers.

That's my only knowledge!
