I'm thinking of down sizing to a single trailer like the HB403 Ifor Williams as I never travel more than one horse at a time these days. I've never used a single so any input would be useful re stability, roominess anything really. Thanks.

I love mine! Compared to one side of a double it is really roomy- lots of space to move around the horse, and I like that it isn't wider than my car. Have found it very stable when towing. For me it was also a bonus that my towing vehicle could have a smaller towing capacity. Would def recommend! x

EtA- My trailer is an Ifor

I have a HB403 and it's great! My horse has a bit more room to place his feet and loves it. Much easier to tow too as it's usually the same width or smaller then the towing vehicle :)

Hi - I have a single.

The plus points (as others have already said) is they are more roomy than a single partition in a double trailer, it's narrower than the car so you can see past it easilly and nice and light to hitch up etc. Also - I can legally tow mine without taking the towing test.

The only downer is you can't take anyone with you!

Love mine too.
No faulting it. Tows like a dream, horses always travell well in it, even the yearling goes in and out, stands quietly etc..

I am one of three of us on our yard with singles. It's the first trailer I've ever had and I love it!

Jinky (my X-trail) tows the trailer (IF401) with my big, draft like there's nothing behind!

It is only as wide as Jinky, so when I helped my friend move house, I could squeeze down tiny side streets with it.

There is no drag on the motorway and I like the fact that my horse is in the middle, rather than one side.

I was concerned that the fact that it's taller than its chassis, that it may topple over. But that's not true.

But the BEST thing is....I can't reverse a trailer for s**t, so I can un-hitch it and spin it round by hand:p

am i understanding this right you took your driving test after 97 so would need to take a trailer test but you say you can tow a single trailer with horse in on your car licence with no need for trailer test. only i have looked into this as am currently taking trailer test and can only tow upto 750kg

Single horse trailers are brilliant, much lighter and are more comfortable for the horse as the width of them is actually a stall and a half of the normal 505/506. My friend has just bought a new one and loves it!

Thanks everyone, my mind is made up. I'm going to get a single trailer but with a front unload I think as I don't fancy trying to get a frightened horse to back out should we have an accident. New or good 2nd hand (if anyone has one PM me)

I know of two for sale at the moment, 1 is a red Ifor Williams but I think it is going to get it serviced before selling it but there is also 1 blue Ifor Williams in really good condition with alloy floor, 2003 model, recently fully serviced for £2350. Yes dont get one without a front unload, on the news it said about their being a ban introduced to stop producing them as they are dangerous.

type in to google search:

lisenced to tow? ifor williams

and underneath will have the first option of a pdf link saying '[PDF] 1-3 A4 LEAFLET - Ifor Williams' click that as that is what I found most helpful to understand.
