Single trailers for a 16.2

Is there any particular reason you want a single? A double makes more sense to me even if you only have the one horse to travel. If you're buying second hand, doubles are far easier to come by and therefore often cheaper and you'll have more chance of finding a good one. There's not a huge weight difference (200kg between the CL single and the heaviest double and 270kg between the very lightest IW single - probably too short for a 16.2 anyway - and the very heaviest, with lots of options in between).

With the change to the towing laws there's no need to get under the 3500kg combined weight like there used to be. I suppose if your tow vehicle has a lower capacity that would be the only reason but even with a chunky 16.2 (my 16.2 ID x Cob is a real chunk and weighs 640kg) in a 510 (the heaviest of the options at 100kg approx) you're not going to be looking at any more than 1650kg and most vehicles people want to tow with are more than capable of that.

If you're only travelling one, a double with double width bars would allow you to remove the partition - giving the horse more room and allowing you to tack up etc inside the trailer.

I love towing my ifor403 single horse trailer on narrow lanes. Where the car will go so will the trailer. I way prefer it to the 510 I can borrrow if I am taking 2 out. Its also much roomier inside than any double horse with the partitions in!!

Yes, agree with all this - mine is the older 401 and I love it. It means I don't need a huge car, my old estate tows it quite happily. I've not seen a Cheval single in this country but I'd imagine the pros and cons of Ifor and Cheval singles are the same as the respective doubles. Ifors (particularly the older ones) are mechanically pretty bombproof, but I'm told Chevals tend to give horses a smoother ride.

Im going down from a double as ulit feels a lot of trailer when im usually only travelling one horse, but thinking will he comfortable fit now... he is 16.2 in 7' rugs...

My froends standardbred 16hh approx in 6'3/6'6 rugs fits in mine comfortably. She sold her 505 as he seemed squashed in it but he has the same amount of space in her 510 as in my 401.

He loads and travels lovely.
