Hi,

I have been looking for a horse for months. Have viewed hours worth of adverts, looked at over a hundred videos, and viewed around 18 horses.

Last weekend we found a lovely horse.

Sadly she is HOURS away from where I live, so I am sitting here waiting for the result of the vetting!

Not that I am excited or anything, but she has been insured since Monday, has a new rug waiting, farrier booked for 8 days time, and I am about to bed down a stable.

Come on vet, riiiiiiiing!!!

I know many of you will understand. It is the planning of the future, the scariness of taking on a new (and Huuuuuge horse), the worry about the extra money. All balanced on the ring of my mobile phone!

I had exactly this today, at exactly the same time. Good luck, and fingers crossed for you :).

Sadly we've just spoken to the vet, and ours did fail, but better luck to you.

I hate waiting for vettings, so you have my sympathy.

Its so hard not to get carried away, buying things beforehand, although I try to tell myself not to, as the last time it not only failed, but crashed and burned on the vetting. I was so upset!!

Anyway, good luck, and are we allowed to know what sort of new pony this might be?! ;P

Ah, I may do an "Introduction to Betty" tomorrow when she comes home. Suffice to say she is a bit of a freak of nature, that took a lot of finding!

Come on vet!

I had a vetting booked for 1200 yesterday, by 1600 the vet hadn't phoned - I had no nails left!! When I finally got her she said she had been waiting till she got to an area with reception argh!!!!! Anyway horse passed, has a couple of girth galls but that's just a minor thing and vet not worried about them, now have to frantically run about to get organised to collect tomorrow eeeeeekkkk. Hope you hear soon!

YAY! Yes, she passed. No worries, just a couple of minors.

Wow, now that is scary now. Need to rush round, bed down, hay, get the lorry ready, find boots.

Eeek, Betty is a 7ft rug kind of a girl, and the biggest I have is 6ft9.

Good luck anyone else in this crazy nerve wrecking position, off to do "stuff".

Fab news! Congratulations!

Brilliant news! When are you going to pick her up? Will be looking forward to seeing some pictures.

Ooh exciting ! Can't was it to see photos of your 'freak of nature' lol

Fab news, congratulations :)

Thank you all. So, I have gone into self doubt mode, hope she works out. We are picking her up tomorrow.

I feel a bit silly being in doubt mode,we have had a fair few horses personally, and until last year I bought and brought on big babies professionally, but, truth be told, I gave that up as my back and hip were too bad, and having not done much with any horse but Jay Man for a year, and being compromised physically, it is rather nerve wracking.

Still, I took a dose of my own advice, and have a friend who is still fit and riding professionally, she is going to come and hack forst, do her first show, and if we get that far this year do her first hunt too.

Gave Jay Man a big groom tonight, as I suspect he will be rather overwrought at a new horse arriving!

I do hope I get some sleep!

Good news, vettings are nerve wracking, we've had one failure which was gutting, but now we have found an amazing horse, LWVTB, coming tomorrow too. I'm really excited, and nervous too, you'd have to be made of stone not to be! Mostly worried about how he'll settle on our yard and about introductions to the rest of the herd.

Feeling a bit disloyal to my old boy too, which I know is daft, he's not going anywhere, but he's been my world for 10 years and it'll be strange having another to lavish time and attention on. Sleepless night ahead for a few of us I think!!

Thank you. Shady, The journey is three hours in a car, so both ways in a box will be a day long job. I will post photos, she is a real freak of nature, loooooong legs, but she does MOVE!

This was me 2 1/2 months ago

Oh, congratulations!!
Look forward to hearing (and seeing) more - hope pick up goes as smoothly as possible today!

Ha, not as smooth as I would have like, but Betty is now in bed! First of all she has not travelled in a rear facing box before and was a bot confused as to how to get in. She pulled back, banged her head, and then took me for a run. I mean, the vet yesterday said she was bolshy and needed manners, but she went for it, set her jaw and made me run.

I scrabbled on the stones, but after a hundred yards skiing on loose pebbles managed to get her stopped. Sadly she then turned and ran the other way, and I was not as quick to corner, so I was left behind and lost her.

Managed to get her on, then 1 hourinto the journey she suddenly, and while we were driving straight and level on the M42, she ran forward and took to bucking, then fell over with her leg under the partition. Mine is a small box, but built like a tank, and withstood the shock of Big Betty. We started to pull onto the hard shoulder, but I decided that no way could we stop on the motorway, so we diverted to a car park of Birmingham airport. A quick check and I could see nothing amiss, so we travelled onwards.

I am too old for this, I was shaking!

3 1/2 hours journey, and with no further bother we arrived home, and I took all precautions, offloaded with a bit/headstall, and she was like a lady.

Jay man did not notice her arrive until we brought her in, whereupon he smelled her, and insisted on an introduction. Betty squealed and went to eat hay, and Jay man was put to bed, whereupon he ran rearing and bucking round his box - NOT what we want for a horse still on walk work for his suspensory!!!

It only lasted a minute or so, then he went for a deep and meaningful discussion with himself in his mirror.

They are now both tucked up eating tea, and we are settling for wine and pizza, exhausted!

Thank you all for your support, it means a lot.

Gawd, what a test of your resolve to get her home!
looking forward to seeing pics :)

Not got many...

first photo is last week, when we decided to buy...

Next is Jay man, and a comical face of horror at an interloper...

And Betty, more concerned with eating in her new bed!

She s a freak of nature, as she may well look like a cart horse, but she moves, she moves, and she also can jump!

But the vet was right, she is bolshy, and needs some manners!
