TBH, my intention is... to "have fun!"

I was into eventing, but my hp and back are bad, and Jay man has tweaked his suspensory, and has a year doing not so much. My husband wanted a horse, and she is green, but she DOES "move", and I think she will be a swan. I will post a vid when I dare to get on!

She has done a couple of BN, and has been placed, and she is a pleasure to ride to a X pole, which is all I have tried so far.

So, in "fantasy land" she will BD to Med level, BE to 100, BS to whatever as I am rubbish at BS (!!!), and also hunt. Also, she is to ride out and dressage with my husband, who is not a novice, but is not experienced.

I can't wait to show her to Jane Bartle-Wilson, who I have lessons from. I am sure she will laugh at me...until she sees her natural action. If you look at the photo last week she is built "uphill", and she felt fab.

In an open field she did get her head down though, and tried to "take me for a run" ridden too. I found out that the owner always rides in a pelham, martingale and noseband, whereas I was in a plain loose ring snaffle, and she did turn and re-balance with a bit of effort.

A few years ago I would have been VERY confident that it would all work out, but I am now older, do not ride professionally, have a bad back and leg... you get the picture. I have arranged for a friend who is STILL a pro to ride he a bit for me to smooth the path.

oooohhh i like her !! very handsome she is a big girl :D she has nice hooves too !!!!!

you may sleep now :) xxxxx

Ah, her feet are overdue and breaking up now, a few chunks missing last week and even more now, and a bit loose too. She is booked in for 7 days time, the earliest I can get her seen to. They are basically sound though, and hard as nails. If the shoes get too bad at least i am confident to remove and file smooth!

Bless poor Betty, she is OK this morning, has eaten most of her hay, drunk enough water, wee'd and pooed, but has not laid down, and her legs are a bit filled :-(

I hate it when new horses arrive and feel lost.

Plan for today... Jay Man is not to run round as he has a suspensory injury, he is on turnout and walk work. So, he will go out this morning, and Betty skipped out. Then at lunchtime Jay Man will come in, and Betty will be walked in a bit/headstall (!!!) to the arena for her first lesson on how to lead without taking mum skiiing on pebbles. This may turn to a quiet (hopefully) lunge round. If that is OK I think she can be turned onto the arena for a few hours, as her shoes are desperately in need of a farrier, and she has a week to wait.

Also, her field has a LOT of grass, and Betty is flexing her muscles enough that a Betty full of autumn grass does not appeal, whereas a Betty full of dry hay and chop is more appealing for the first few days I think.

I am also going to take time to go swimming, dissipate the stress!

Aww she's lovely but huge! Your journey sounded a nightmare but hope her and Jay will settle soon. This time next year they will be best buddies!

Looking forward to hearing your updates on her :D

She's nothing like a carthorse! :p :eek3:

Well she lunges like one! GerDung GerDung GerDung!!!!

Phew, done some stuff with Betty. Groomed Ok. Led her to the school on a bit/headstall, and she was bargy, so we did some backing up. We then lunged, and she was OK for a few minutes, then decided to take me for a drink at the water tub. I managed to keep hold, stopped and readjusted the lunge rein so it went over her head too, and set to lungeing again. This time she was "had" so we did a bit of lungeing until she dropped her head. Then, OH led her in, we have put her rug on and OH turned her on the school. She is very electric tape aware, so we have connected it up, and she is moseying round, in fact she has just found Jay's mirror so she is admiring herself.

New horses are exhausting!

good that she has been put in her place from the start and hopefully after a few days or reducing reminders she will turn into a polite and non bargey mare to have around

She's lovely, just my type! Large, athletic with a bit of 'madam' about her by the sounds of it. Just how big is she?
Wish you the best of luck with her, can't wait to see a vid of her movement if you get round to it at any point.

She is 17hh atm. She does not look anything until she is ridden, then she really moves. The only video I have so far is with the seller riding, and it feels rude to post that, so I will wait until I have one of me riding. She needs some life lessons first though, she seems a little lost at the home change. Today we lunged and she is spending the night out to mosey round. Tomorrow who knows. I guess if I am not riding after a week I will worry, but I think she will settle before then.

She is destined to be a husband horse, but as she moves I may pinch her for some dressage too :-)
