So I had my friend lunge me last night so i could work on my sitting trot.

I have to say my horses was brilliant and didn’t put a foot wrong, bless him, he had me bouncing about trying different things so that i could get the stupid sitting trot right and he just did as he was told.

I felt a little better and try to take on board everything that was recommended but i couldn’t get the movement in my hips and i felt like i was bouncing a lot although the girl lunging me said it wasn’t moving as much as i though i was. I didn’t know what to do with my hands so ended up using them as a sports bra, works really well.

I think i need a lot more practice but i don’t think i will every find it comfortable on him but hopefully i will be able to ride while sitting trot and not just trying to stay on.

My legs are killing me, i feel like i have never ridden before and forgot how hard it was to ride without stirrups on a very bouncy horse.

Thanks for all your advice and i will keep practicing, i am going to try and do at least 5 mins every time i ride so hopefully i will get better.

Good luck :) I've got a v bouncy horse as well, trying to do sitting trot's a nightmare! Let me know if you find something that works, I've been trying for ages!

the more you move WITH the horse, the stiller you'll feel but you will still be moving - partic on a big moving horse

try watching some DVDs of some top riders and you'll see just how much pelvic movement there is - sitting still on a horse is impossible - try thinking of it as sitting with the horse... :) :)

if your legs are sore, it'll be because you were gripping on :( - your lower back should be sore with unaccustomed flexion when you start to get the "sit" proper

where are you? No offence to your helpful friend but is it poossible to get lunge lessons from an instructor?

I am in Lancashire, i have a good instructor but just asked a friend that the horse and I both trust to lunge him while i practiced my self. I do need a lesson and although my instructor is brilliant she wouldn’t be the best person to help me with sitting trot, she is from a jumping background (nuf said).

I have a 16'2 with no really movement and prefer to do sitting trot on her to rising and my mate has a 17.2 ID with ok ish movement and i can sit on him all day it is just my bouncy boy that is too elevated for me.

My lower back is a little sore and it is my hips (right at the top of my legs) that is sore. I do think i was gripping a bit too much but did feel afterwards like my insides had been put through a washing machine and i am not sure if that is right.:D
