Six soldiers missing presumed dead in Afghanistan

My boyfriend deploys to Helmand in three weeks, has brought this news home even more. Can't imagine how those families are feeling.
 
It didnt take the vultures long to appear!

I've just driven past the camp and there are tons of press there, ITN, BBC, all of them.

RIP boys. Thoughts to all of your families and friends
 
Twiglet, my very best wishes to your boyfriend . I hope he and his fellow comrades keep safe throughout their tour. May he come back safely to you. They are such brave lads and deserve all our support. I am so sorry for the families of those six soldiers. May they Rest In Peace. xx

I wish I could point you to a post one of my son's commented on earlier today. All three of my sons are sevicemen, and all are due to fly out to Afghanistan this year. My middle son responded to a comment such as yours with a lovely post about how, when you are serviceman and going out to Afghanistan regularly, you see the difference you have made. He said that the children, initially unseen in the Taliban run villages, now run out with big smiles on their faces when they see the troops. My son has seen schools built, doctors being made accessible to all, workers able to go about their daily businesses, and he is proud that he and his colleagues have had a small part in making Afghanistan a better place for the innocent people who live there. He says that sometimes you have to lose a few lives to make the world a better place for many.

I am very proud of my son and his comments today, as I am proud of my other two sons and all the servicemen and women who have sacrificed a few to help the many.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the lads killed.

I don't disagree, but there are so many problems in the world, so many countries with sad stories, we can't solve them all.
I am glad that the servicemen are working to improve conditions, but unhappy that they should put their lives on the line for a country with which I have no link.
I am not happy about the reason we are there, it seems like politics rather than humanitarianism.
I was under the impression that we subscribed to the UN for humanitarian relief, but history proved that did not work, in Bosnia, for example.
 
100% support for the armed services

0% support for any Govt who sends them there

Sure, they may make a difference through sacrifice whilst they are there but the proof in any lasting difference will be a few years after they all leave

The issue with Afghanistan is that history tells us that NO outside force has ever been triumphant in that country

Oh, one more oddity ..... poppy production has been allowed to increase because it would be economical suicide not to allow that and would anger the population of that country ..... they tend to keep that quiet though !!

Invading a country and then sending them into poverty is not a good way to win hearts and minds
 
To be honest, they really don't want us there or anybody else,if they want the Taliban back then that is their choice and one they will have to live with for the rest of their lives, they are a backward looking country and that is how they want it,so be it.
 
Horrible news, my heart goes out to their poor families. I will always support our troops with whatever they do, they are true heroes. I do wish that the government would decide to bring them home now.

Had to rush and peep at my nephews FB page, he has posted in the last 24hrs so........is OK
Our family is divided so I would not necessarily hear immediately

RIP brave lads you did not deserve that.
