Well after a shocking elimination sj at Tweseldown then slightly sticky couple of rounds at Royal Leisure and Pulborough I decided a lesson was in order to help us get our sj mojo back.

Headed off for a lesson today making threats at the weather that it didn't throw too much at me before I got safely home.

Well he was fab :) full confession to my instructor that I was bricking it about stuff I wouldn't have thought twice about last year but we built it up and it was great. Ok still lots to work on especially with my core strength getting me to sit up on landing and him becoming more balanced through the corners and I'm not stylish at all but I actually felt like I was actually riding not impeding.

More lessons scheduled as I need it to be second nature rather than relying on it working only when I'm being shouted at!

I did however get absolutely soaked, everything the horse and I were wearing was sopping! But it was worth it :)

On a sadder note I went to visit my old boy who is due to come back off loan in 2 weeks to retire. He's got a melanoma on his sheath which is becoming more problematic. Vet coming Friday to take a look and see how it's developed but it's not looking great. He looks so well in himself and he's not old but he's been unlucky with the position of the lump. Fingers crossed we can keep him comfortable for a few more years of retirement but the treatment option to cut the lump out would involve complex surgery to re route the urethra and it's not a route I'll be taking with him as an 18yr old with low level hock arthritis.

Sounds like a great lesson. I too am lacking mojo at the mo (the builders in the indoor school aren't helping).

Sorry to hear about your old boy. Fingers crossed for the Vet on Friday

Thank you. I have just booked myself another lesson for the second week in November so fingers crossed I haven't forgotten everything she told me yesterday!!

I'm a little nervous about Friday. Up til now every horse I've had it's been a clear cut decision but this is different, he looks so well and happy but I know all is not right on the inside. He's only 18 too :(. Still we will know more on Friday when the vet is able to take a proper look and we'll take it from there.

Hope you get your mojo back soon...it's horrid when it goes away. About 18 months ago I was thinking of pushing up to 1.05 / 1.10s but this year 90's were looking big and scary....damn those mental demons!

Nice to here the mojo is coming back :) I need to follow your footsteps and get in some lessons with my new guy to get us partnered up better in the SJ ring.

Good vibes being sent your way for Friday.

Thank you :). My boy looks very much like the grey in your sig...bless him.

I am so pleased I went for the lesson...am starting to feel more positive and like my goals for next year (which I have actually committed to writing in the hope I will focus on achieving them) are within my reach and that I'm being a bit more proactive about reaching them rather than just hoping the horse will do it.
