So had my first SJ sesh with Porridge today. We worked really well on the flat, I have deffo cracked her 80% now, which makes me rather happy! She is still gobby though, am hoping a change in bit WILL help this. I took the flash off her at the beginning of the week and this means she is starting to loosen her lower jaw a bit more, but this will take time.

So onto the jumping, off the right rein she was perfect - we worked on bounces and I would guess she has never attempted them before although she was foot perfect

Then we worked off the left rein over 2 bounces and one stride to a spread. First time I went to go into this she stuck her nose out and dived, so then worked on cantering circles in front of the grid, leaving her guessing when I was going to go in, and trying to get her to submit and soften. We popped a placing pole back in front of the grid and got her going much better. Am going to try her in my myler combi to get her to sit up a bit more, and also the saddle I am riding in doesn't do either of us any favours as I cannot get up off her back as much as I would like, but should have my new saddle in a few weeks!

So we finished there and I cooled her down and realised I hadn't taken any vid

So I popped her through the grid again, although it had been amended for the next lesson and I am happy to say we cocked it up and she and I had totally lost our connection so the vid is NOT at all pretty - I am dropping my contact, letting her go long, not setting her up well and her hocks are in the next county, ho hum!!!

Anyway, prob bored you all to death now - here are some stills!

And the very crappy vid - please feel free to laugh!!!

I couldn't see anything wrong with the vid!

Very nice mare Weez, very serene isn't she? And they weren't exactly little jumps. Well certainly not to me!!!

I think you'll go on very well together. So we need a Porridge fan club now eh? You should see if you can get sponsorship from Oat-so-simple!

new favorite term 'kick-kick'

She looked good, just reached for the first canter pole - stop being so hard on yourself.

Bless her

Im gonna call her sweetness!

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw, yes she is sweet, when she isn't being argumentative - have just had to PMSL again at the amount of work I am doing thrusting her on AND using my lower leg, she looks quite forward going in the vid but in reality she takes a lot of riding to keep her going around the school once she has switched off (which she had!)

She is quite serene tho she DOES have that marish attitude in that she will NOT be told and I am really working on understanding that as I am a gelding person

Those jumps really are small for her, she doesn't give that height any respect at all. If you come in to a big fence she sits up and pays attention WAY more!

Would love some sponsorship LOL!

From your comments - I think they are related (Donkey and her)!!!!!!! Only she has the jumping gene - she really stretches out to the fences - cant praise her enough!

I think you look great- if you want to see some crap jumping you want to see me, lol, honestly im awful which is why i don't bother with it anymore. Shes such a genuine horsey, love her.

Oh I know about THAT kind of mare! Asti knows I hate jumping so if I jump her, she steeplechases fences - she thinks if she goes fast enough I can't wuss out! She was really forgiving with the brat from hell that rode her, she kept messing up (the brat) and messing up and messing up again and open WH fences are NOT small, and bless her the orange one got her out of every mess she made, because she "asked" her to get her out of it.

Though if someone got on and "told" her - she has the dirtiest stop I've seen and she's corrected a few peoples thinking that way and made them eat dirt!!!! Yet put a novice on and she's take them round a course without a foot out of place!

Funny things mares, but I much prefer them!
