I don't know whether to get someone else to jump my horse for me this year or stop being pathetic and get on with it!

I've got a 16.3 ISH with really good jumping breeding, he's a hunter at the moment and I did some BN/Disc last summer on him.

Some days went really well, but others we would get a little out of control, and have silly run outs, and i came off a couple of times! I think he's a bit too much horse for me in a way and he might need someone better/stronger to get the best out of him.

I have lessons (well have had about 3 on this horse) with a guy who is a really good rider and has riden him before and likes him, do you think i should get him to have a go with him or stop being pathetic, have more lessons and get on with it myself?

thanks,
xx

i think the best thing you could do is get lessons on the horse and work real hard on your confidence. at the same time maybe get this instructor to jump your horse for you afew times. this'll help overcome any issues that may arise in the ring. that way when you feel ready, your horse will have confidence and it'll be easier for you.

Did you buy the horse for you to ride or to watch someone else ride him? Just because he is talented doesn't mean he has to jump BN etc. If you enjoy riding him and jumping him I would get some lessons and keep going. It gets expensive watching someone else jump your horse for you. If you wanted to sell him then I would get someone else to ride him so that his printout looks good.

Don't feel guilty about not wanting to jump big fences

I'm not really interested in doing unaffilliated, the shows are soooo rubish around us!! I just find SJ a bit scary for some reason, not sure why cos hunting/team chasing/XC I find ok and i'm much more likely to die doing those things!

I think i just need to stop worrying about things going wrong really and get on with it! x

Easier said than done... know how you feel. If you can somehow get rid of the pressure it all becomes much easier.

Get on wth it or I will come and beat you wth a stick

I wish hunting and team chasing could be all yr round! x

Good point and if I have to keep him fit in the summer time my mum will make me ride after work (she rides him or gets other people to in the winter) which will be the trip of Sheffield - Derby - Barnsley - Sheffield, err, 130 miles a day!! Could do with out that!

I think it would be nice to see what he could do with a decent jocky onboard though. maybe he could have a go in the spring an then have a month or 2 off!

Thanks for your help guys! x
