It was such a lovely day today that we decided (even though S is now registered with SJAI and there was indoor reg jumping on) to go to the training show at Tyrella and because there was a 70cm class, D offered to jump my mare Flo. Flo hasn't jumped since she put me in hospital with concussion when we were XC schooling on the 20th October, so roughly 4 months with just flatwork.
Tyrella is beside the sea, so lovely sandy soil (great draining for early in the season), but obviously dreadful if it is windy or wet (think jumps blowing down which happened a few years ago - had to use spare spectators to weight the uprights down)!!!
Anyway,..early start needed because the 70cm started at 9am, so arrived in plenty of time and D decided to do the Jumpcross comp rather than SJ with her so he walked the course and I tacked her up.
Considering it was a year since she was at Tyrella, and so long since she had jumped, she was pretty well behaved in the warmup with just a couple of humps (not even bucks) and after a few practice jumps D said they were ready to go.
There were 18 fences (8 SJ and 10 XC) and she knocked one SJ fence, and stopped at a v spooky telegraph pole fence. It was v small, but was out of the field down a hill onto the beach, so lots of horses just didn't seem to understand what they were being asked. Anyway, after not one jump for 4 months, I was delighted with her, and with D for giving her a spin round as it gave me confidence to see her jumping so well. I taped it with the camcorder, so no pics, just the one of them back at the lorry (hope no-one thinks he's too big for her)!!
Put her away about 11, and had a wander about, as the 80cm SJ was still going, but eventually got S out and ready (studs in as she slipped here last year) and warmed up.
S jumped the most lovely double clear in the 1m class. It was really smooth and flowing, although she stood off so far at one spread I nearly missed her (with the camera).
Then we had the most tedious wait for the 1m jumpcross class which eventually started about 3.30. She didn't go as well (knocked 2 SJ fences) but speeded up round the XC part to finish on a good note (even if she didn't get another rosette).
Finally got home at about 5, so they had a quick hour in the field for a roll (Ben had been standing in all day waiting for them as he doesn't go out on his own so he was a very cross pony), and we finally got to sit down about 7.
The only annoying thing is that I remembered to tape the C4 racing, but forgot that K Star etc were at ascot on BBC, so hopefully will be able to see online, or borrow a friend's DVD she recorded.
What a waffle - anyway, hope you enjoyed reading!!
