Well I think for a start someone swapped my horse today, as he was so unbelievably chilled and relaxed
Met Ottinmeg there and she said thats the Jerry monster didn't look like a monster at all! lol
He warmed up ok for the 2ft/2'3 class, looking around a lot and quite tense to ride, but not in the least bit silly. Didn't like the warm up surface much and slipped quite a bit, but didn't panic and popped the warm up fence a few times very nicely. Went in to the ring and as I expected he spooked at the little shed but other than that didn't look at anything, trotted round and took fence 1 as if it was 3ft, then settled and popped everything else really nicely. Took the top rail of one fence where he just didn't bother (too small
) and finished nicely.
I had entered him in the next class as didn't want to leave him hanging around for too long in between, got on to warm him up and he was really distracted, but again very sensible. Ended up going in one early as person before us didn't show up, and from the minute he started I could tell he was getting above himself. He was very good though, but it was him jumping, not me, when he started to rush and I went to correct him he through his head sideways and demolished the next jump, and then the next lol He did however clear the double to finish but only by luck! He obviously thought he knew what he was doing now, and didn't need my help at all! I was going to only do the 2 classes but really didn't want to leave him feeling like he knew best, so entered him the 2'9.
Changed bits to a rubber pelham as he felt really unsettled in the metal bit, and he was so much better to warm up, I could actually take a hold without him over reacting and 20 minutes and loads of transitions later and he was really listening to me. Jumped the warm up fence beautifully so went in.
He was light, calm and listening from the start, I made him trot round all the corners and he came back to me really nicely, he took the top rail some of the fences but he was really tired by this point and I couldn't fault his behaviour. He took off perfectly and did everything I asked, just got lazy with his back legs, but tbh he was shattered.
I was so pleased with him and think people thought I was mad as I kept telling him how good he was when he had just got 24 faults, but I know he can jump the height, getting him to do it in a nice controlled manner and being able to check him without a fuss was brilliant! So I am really pleased with him.
Thank you so much to Ottinmeg for taking photos, will put them online later, my camera died after 10 minutes so if it wasn't for her there wouldn't be any!
Still cant get over how chilled he was
