Hi,

I am having nightmare finding right saddle for my 16h 5year old i.d/tb for showjumping and XC. He is relatively fit now and jumping discovery. Had albion k2 wide but the flocking lifted the saddle high off his back. My wide barnsby whitaker close contact is best fit so far, think due to the slim flat padding. I am looking for something bit more secure for XC and wondered if anyone had any good experiences for flat backed wide horses.

Thanks

Have just got a Vega for a fairly wide event horse, it gives him plenty of room for his large shoulders, is very forward and close contact. We tried many on him, he did not suit Albions they were too far off his back or cut in behind his shoulder.
The Vega fitting is slightly different to English saddles, they come up slightly wider so we actually ended up with a med. whereas he usually is MW.

My flat/wide backed close-coupled IDx is in a Fairfax jump saddle (now called the Kent and Masters S-Series jump saddle). Can't say I like it particularly but it does fit him and we had a similar problem as you have, with the Albion.

This one has an adjustable gullet and since I've had him (1 year) we've gone up 2 gullet sizes (not sure which we're in now but I think it's Wide/Extra Wide (orange).
