Hmm, need some advice.
Haven't done much SJ in last month or two, been schooling over jumps but probably only jumped one course in last 6 weeks!
Going out sunday to a charity show at local venue, just filling in my entry form, but can't decide what to do! Should I stay well within his comfort zone (2'6/2'9 and 2'9/3'0 classes)? After all he hasn't done too many courses etc recently.
OR should I get on with it as my instructor tells me all the time and enter the 2'9/3'0 and the 3'0/3'3? He CAN jump this height, but it requires more co-operation from him!! Sometimes an issue.... I want to be jumping 1m classes regularly by the end of the summer, so I do need to get on, but is it a bit harsh to ask him to do that when he hasn't been out over J that much recently (been doing xc more often!).
To be fair it is his local venue, so he is happy with all the fences/fillers, and on an indoor surface so no worries about the ground - but should I let him have this one show to ease himslef back in then go up a height in a couple of weeks??

Arrrggghhhh I'm useless at decision making!

I would tend to listen to my instructor. however saying that you know your horse and the worse thing to do is too loose his confidence. I think I may go for the 2'9 and then the 3'?

When I first started jumping Arch and couldnt decide what class to do, my trainer would say 'Its better to jump a smaller class well, than a bigger class badly!'

Good words I thought, so with this mind and the fact youve not been out for while, Id do the smaller classes this time, then next time you out try the bigger ones.

If in doubt do the smaller classes. You can always swap the second class to be the bigger one if you feel like it on the day too.

Hmm, yes that is a good point! THink I'll enter the smaller ones then. Jumping there again in 2 weeks in the RC summer show and will def do the 90cm and 1m there, so maybe best to treat this as a warm up!
thanks for advice guys!

Yes, think I will. I'll enter the 2'9 and 3'0 but the 3'3 is never full around her, so I'll see how he goes in the first one and then decide whether to stick with it or change up. (won't tell OH the plan though he won't be overly keen on waiting while a whole class runs
