Skewbald or Skrewbald!!

Darling.... a Skewbald is a coloured horse/pony and a Skrewbald is a naughty, bucking, coloured horse/pony!:)
Bryndu

I was expecting to open this up and see photos of a loony coloured horse charging about in the snow!
I will stick to appaloosas - now that is often mispronounced too! One person called them Appos!
Others spell it wrong and some think they have one when they don't! Appy Christmas! ;)

One of our local advertising papers has some 'interesting' adverts usually.

They often have 'red-chested' horses for sale, took me a while to work out that they meant 'registered'!

Really? How did they get red-chested from registered, there must be some real numpties up where you live lol!!

Yes there are! lol, It's usually the travellers who spell it as they say it, 'goes on a tether with plenty of feather' is another selling tehnique lol!

my husband used to call them screwballs bless him. We were at hicksted once watching a coloured showing class and he asked "why did they name the horse colouring after an icecream?" how embarassing. i now make him just call them coloured, far less confusing for the non-horsey!!

you are not alone, this is something that has bothered me all my life lol.

Its not just that, it took me weeks to figure out that the chocolate, liver, dark bay, brown, liver chestnut and dark chestnut horses that the gypsy keeps trying to sell me is actually just one horse.

So what way does everyone pronounce it
Skewbald (sk-u-bald)
OR
Skrewbald (skrew-bald)

:p

Neither:D

Paint :D

In the UK I'd say skewbald, never heard of screwbald sounds like something that has a DIYer reaching for the WD40/duct tape/hammer!;)

Often see ads for Brewed mares...hic! ;)
