my new forests tail is looking a bit skanky!!! its not very thin but its not as thick most foresters. i know that i shouldnt have used a plastic curry comb on it(i know im about to be told off) but when its tangled and muddy it does a quick job-but im guessing thats why my pony has a thin tail? he has never had a mega thick tail but is there any thing i can do to encourage thickness(length is fine!)

I would give it one good wash now & then leave it alone washing wise. Tidy up the end & from now on, only use a good quality brush on it - we have found the Oster mane & tail brush to be excellent! (Try it on your own hair & see, it should go easily through even tangled hair without making your eyes water lol)

I think the fly spray MD uses helps too, as it contains cider vinegar, which is said to thicken hair & give it a nice shine!
She is also super careful about brushing tails, always supporting them fully & working carefully from the bottom up, a bit at a time.

I would suggest using a good detangler from now on when you brush it and wait for the regrowth with more gentle and careful combing. I think a nicely trimmed tail appears thicker anyhow so I will echo trimming it up here and there.

There are fantastic tail extensions to get you through this years show season if all else fails

Only trouble with them is they are SO Lush and perfect you can spot them a mile away

This is my answer to a beautiful thick tail.

Wash and detangle using a good detangler - I personally love the equss products and the survivor for me is just that. Never brush or comb hair out unless wet and covered in detangler, and do it as little as possible. Use a detangler comb or paddle brush - the ones from Avon are excellent and be very gentle so you do not damage the hair.

In winter, invest in a tailbag - wash and detangle, then plait and pop in the bag and forget for two weeks, then remove bag and add more detangler and gently comb through, or use a leave in conditioner then plait up again and put back in bag.

Chancer's tail is so full that I leave half the tail in the bag in summer with the top layer out as a swisher.

I also have found megatek rebuilder excellent - mix 50 - 50 with water and put a little on every couple of days and really rub into the roots. Helps to have healthy thick strong hair and encourages fast growth.

Cairo has never had such a good thick tail since I have done this and Chancer's tail is often commented on.

You can get all the things I have said above from tailgator.co.uk. Their products are not the cheapest, but are good.
