When grooming my new boy today i have noticed dry bald patches inside his ears. The skin is white, flaky (almost scaly) and looks sore in places. The flies are definitely bothering them and appear to be flying in and out. His ears are very hairy and he appears to enjoy me rubbing them so I'm pretty sure they must be quite itchy. What I'm wondering is are the flies causing the problem or are they just making the most of a feeding opportunity on a pre existing condition? Any ideas what it could be i.e mites, mange and how best to treat it?
I don't think its aural plaques as although it looks slightly similar the skin is not lumpy or warty and sort of rubs off when i touch it.
