Blimey! Looks like a reaction to something - or maybe an underlying fungal infection, it will be interesting to see what skin scraping shows. Hope it clears up soon.

we have a tb x who has exactly the same thing, I thought lice at first but cannot find any sign of them. I have wondered if he has overheated in his rugs (he was double rugged) as the weather became a little warmer even though I have checked him regularly to make sure he wasn't still cold, I would like to think I would have noticed if he was too warm when I checked! He is also very itchy and has rubbed his dock bare, when I applied salve to it he was almost sitting down trying to get me to scratch him. He also has it over his hip bones.

Probably a re-occurence of the lice - maybe the reason they aren't so easy to see is because it's a much weaker infestation. It's easy to miss zapping something that could be acting as a "reservoir" for the little bleeders. Common reservoirs are: other horses (whose owners can't be arsed to treat), wooden doors, rugs, numnahs, grooming kits (especially if shared by another horse that may have lice). Frontline on its own might sort this episode but remember to repeat as you did before.

Does look like lice, or a reaction to something. Fungal infection or rainscald are another way -out thought ? Hmmm - let us know. How b***** frustrating. Try using neat lavender essential oil. sm x

Thank you for the replies, will be treating again with front line, the other 4 horses have been treated has well, rugs etc.
I did wander if she has got too warm under her rug and the little gits have come back because of this,??. its so frustrating or the years Ive had them they have never had lice.

It could well be lice... in humans they can be hard to treat because treatments may not get all the eggs and so they hatch and bang! you have still have an infestation!! I'd ve tempted to give her a hibbi scrub bath (just in case it is fungal) and then treat for lice...
