i have heard through the grapevine about skin so soft by avon is a great insect repellant for horses does any one else use it if so which one and do u dilute it or just put it on
I tried it and to be honest I didn't find it any better or worse than anything else, except it's a lot cheaper than repellant and makes the horse smell lovely!!
I just sprayed it straight on after doing a patch test.
Its recommended for sweet itch sufferers, think it keeps midges away more than flies. Also because its an oil it helps the skin where they are suffering from sweet itch. Also agree it makes the horse smell lovely
Funny how this should come up. I have just been given recipes with this in it.
1 is 1 oz citronella oil, 2 oz skin so soft 1 cup cider vinegar 1 cup water another is 2 cups white vinegar 1 cup avon skin so soft 1 cup water 1 tablespoon eucalyptus oil.
I am forming a leaflet. Anyone have any others?
Im using it at the moment and it works as well as any other bought fly spray. My horse is a bit greasy though, he is black though and be careful using it in the sun as it does burn, afterall it is oil. I have diluted it loads as I used it neat on his mane a few years ago, wondered what all the flakes where and then realised I'd fried him.
It was the really hot summer we had years ago and I'd never even thought to dilute it.
I have found it doesn't do much except make the neds greasy and scented . Over the past 20 years I've seen those who praise its results ,when from where I was standing the horse was wearing a veritable rug of files . I have tried it on many horses ,never had it work well !!
