Anyone seen this before?

He's a chestnut, with dark skin. No strange pigments going on anywhere. They're raised, almost look like white-heads, but not sore, itchy, anything like that. He's happy having them touched, faffed with, poked at, etc. The main cluster is on his sheath ^^, but it extends down the insides of his back legs, and there's the odd (very small) one on his face, round his muzzle and eye. I've no idea how long it's been there for.

Any ideas, please?

Not that I'm aware of, he only arrived on the yard this morn though, so not sure if he's been sprayed with anything. Does it look like a reaction to something?

Had something similar with my gelding last week, looked the same but wasn't raised. It went within a couple of days and I put it down to either citronella spray or power phaser fly repellant. I use copious amounts of both because of sweet itch and it only appeared on the hairless bits between his back legs.

Thanks for the replies.

Papillomas... the description fits, but looking at pics they're generally lumpier / more wart-like in appearance?

He hasn't had any fly sprays, lotions or potions anywhere near him today (or y'day since he arrived). They still look about the same.

Vitiligo... seems to only affect colouring, not skin texture? They are raised, only by a mm or so, but you can notice a difference when you run a hand over them.

I'm going to have vet check them out over next couple of weeks, just not seen anything like it before

not vitiligo - that's flat and tends to be bigger patches than that and affects sensitive tissues round muzzle, and eyes. (see Ron in my signature)

looks like urticaria to me - so a reaction to something.

I'd email the pic to vets and see if they recognise it first :). Mine are happy to look at pics before seeing in person if necessary.

I did ponder an odd presentation of ringworm perhaps? The way it has spread from a central point on sheath.. gets less on the legs makes me think of a spreading infection thats poss fungal at least.

how old is he? papilloma/milk warts I think affects youngsters more and not sure they look lumpy enough for that.

Ooh. I hadn't thought of emailing the vet, I'll try that. Can but ask :) He turned 4 last week so he's still young, but they're definitely more raised than lumpy. I did consider ringworm, but it's neither itchy nor flakey.

Description of urticaria fits... am I best off leaving it to it for a few days?

4 days on it's still looking the same (bar a couple of little scabs that look more like fly bites than anything else), no bigger, no smaller.

Any more ideas appreciated :)

I'm also interested to hear what vet says. My boy has similar around his sheath but no where near that volume (he has 3 spots). He's had them since I can remember at least 17 years. I noticed it one day and thought has he always had that. When I asked vet they looked and said nothing to worry about if there's no changes or increase in volume. Can't remember what vet called it, wasn't anything I was familiar with at the time but that's a long time ago now.

Interested to hear a more up to date take on it.

I'll update once vet has taken a look at it :) I want to roll it all in together (vaccs need doing, plus want them to take a look at his teeth), so I was going to let him settle down a little before letting them loose on him! :p I also assumed it would change over a few days if it was a reaction?

Anyway to find out if he's always had it? Doesn't look like a reaction more a skin condition but I'm no expert. If its like my boy he's never been bothered with it and its never changed/spread.

That's the way to do it, blast everything in 1 visit. 😉

I've asked, they told me he hasn't had any problems / allergies / issues / etc while they had him.

Definitely... callout is just ridiculous nowadays!

Just thought I'd update this, seeing as I said I would!

Lumps were put down to milk / juvenile warts in the end :) They turned more wart like than in the original pic, then started dropping off. His face is now clear again (I can't call him wart-face anymore... :(), inside leg is nearly there, sheath is still the worst bit but definitely looking better.

Thanks again for advice! These were taken y'day, for reference.
