Hi everyone, as you may know I have acquired a new dog recently - a lurcher who accompanies Millie my jrt, I've had skinners dog food recommended to me on this forum and elsewhere, I was just wondering if it would be suitable for both dogs? I've been looking at the 'maintenance' version, what do you reckon?

Oh currently Suzy the lurcher is on JWB adult White fish & rice, Millie is on AG 'mini' only as this is what millie was on when Suzy arrived and the JWB was the feed I trusted most in the short notice I had before picking Suzy up! It would be ideal to have them both on the same food!

could you not stay with jwb for the lurcher and gradually change the jack russell over to the same? my lurcher is on jwb turkey and rice kibble as she recently was diagnosed with colitis, i changed my collie cross to the same(gradually) as it was a pain having 2 sets of food to organise. it seems to suit both dogs equally, so i am really pleased although it is not the cheapest!!!:D

The Skinners you want (& that equates to JWB) is the Field & Trial variety.

It comes in Duck & rice, Lamb & rice or Salmon & rice.

Thanks everyone, splashgirl, slinky is right, the jwb is great but skinners will be a whole lot cheaper! S4s is the maintenance not good then?

The maintenance is not such a good food as it contains wheat. The F & T Duck & Rice etc are wheat free, which suit a lot of dogs better as many have problems with wheat gluten.

My two are on the maintenance and do very well. I've had lots of problems with Jack's weight but he doesn't scrounge anymore and hasn't gained anything. :)

Skinners Duck and Rice has been great for my older dog - 8year old lab. He's been fed on this for about 2 years now and he is fine weight wise, energy levels etc. But my younger dog hasn't done so well. She is now 15 months old and a little underweight. She produces huge soft poos and is clearly not getting all she can from the food despite me feeding her enough for a 32kg dog and she is just under 23kg. I have ordered a bag of the salmon and rice to see if she is any better on that but have in the last week switched her (gradually) onto a German food, Belcando which so far seems better (in terms of poo output). The Belcando was won by the older dog and having looked up spec on their website it looks to be a fairly good food with high meat content.
I will certainly be sticking with Skinners for the older dog but at the moment am considering alternatives for the younger one. They both get sardines, eggs, pasta etc as well as the kibble.
