okay so i practised over one yesterday

today i stood two barrels upright with V poles and small wings in a double sequence with two strides inbetween and she (eventually) did them both very nicely AND she messed her stride up into the first one and diddnt duck out.

at first i think the wings where too close to the barrel and she thought she copuldnt fit and she kept jumping the wing in stead!! lol so i moved them out slightly and kept the V's on the barrel and she jumped them nicely....

in the next few days imn going top repeat this untill she just goes into it like a normal jump and then put poles on floor....

hopefully ill make some flags in easter hols and boyf might make me a plywood wedge to practice over befor i go to kelsall hill on sat 22nd!!

umm, that's a difficult combination of fences tbh, for a novice horse. when you say she "eventually" did them both very nicely, i infer from that that you had quite a few duck outs/problems first... which isn't good for either of you!
if she was mine, i think i'd ask less for now, e.g. lay the barrels on their sides and have poles coming off them to the sides at angles (a slight vee) to channel her in from one direction, and when she finds that easy, jump it the other way, so the poles are still there as wings but not actively channeling the approach, if that makes sense. then add a second barrel about 3-4 strides away (so you have some more correction room) with vee poles again. only when she's totally happy and honest about them lay the poles on the floor.
sorry if this is unwelcome advice though... it just doesn't do them much good (or you!) to have loads of problems!

agree with kerilli keep it simple and appealling if you make it too difficult you are asking for problems. remember its not about height it accuracy riding and lots of practice. Small and simple to build confidence

Good luck

I agree with Kerilli, never start where you would like to finish up, always take it slowly, work from the bottom upwards, this gives the horse confidence and trust in you, wheras you are rushing things to get to your end result.

I agree with that Kerilli.
Carmenlucy, what you are doing is basically training her to jump a specific jump, where as if you do the exercise kerilli suggests you will have control and balance, which are essential tools for any skinny or corner you might meet anywhere!

no we diddnt have any duck outs she just kept jumping them wonky and weaving about going up to it. she is 11 now so not overfacing her anyhoo she did them nice i only jumped it three times i wasnt there for ages ragging her round.
