Skinny horse

My horse is on loan and I think she's too thin to be ridden at the moment. I want her to be fed the same as my other tb horse, high energy mash and alfalfa chaff, but the loaners don't want that as they're worried it will make her fizzy, they have done their own 'research' I also don't want her ridden at the moment, again they disagree What so you think?
I have tried uploading images with no success, it says they're too large. Anyway I put her condition score between 1 and 2 on the bhs website, prob closer to 1 at the moment.

Take her back tomorrow! You have tried to advise but they disagree so things are unlikely to change so as owner you need to intervene for her welfare. Under feeding to keep her quiet when riden is cruelty.

Has she lost weight since she's been on loan or did she go underweight?
Is she having adlib forage?
If you have concerns remove her.

Your horse, your rules. If the loaners are worried that an up-to-weight TB is going to be too fizzy for them then they shouldn't be loaning a TB. Maybe they're concerned about the high energy mash, there are plenty of feeds on the market that aid weight gain without making them too energetic.

I would take her back too. You have only a short window of opportunity to make a difference here, I would take it.

End the loan agreement if your not happy with her care. If their arguing with you then the likelihood is they won't change their ways.

You have given them a chance and they have declined your advice, that to me is a breech of contract. I would be taking the horse back tomorrow without warning.

1-2 sounds horrific are you sure.

I’d suggest something like linseed / outshine / conditioning versus high energy for a TB in winter. And as much hay as can eat.

If they are genuinely under feeding and won’t feed more (even if lower energy feed) then you need to take horse back asap.

It's simply not acceptable for them to say 'no' to providing suitable feed and turning the horse away until it's in better condition.

You must take the horse back now. You still have a duty of care, you can't leave it in a home where it's being neglected.

Agree with the others. If the horse is as poor as you suspect, the next months could be disastrous. Get the horse back asap.

20 years ago when I had mine on loan, I did a SURPRISE visit!! Same position.

Drove straight home got the trailer and picked him up. Would never loan again.
